At least 16 people were killed Sunday in a mass shooting during a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Australia, according to reports.
The dead include a child, PBS claims. A father and son pair are suspected of committing the massacre: Sajid Akram, 50, and Naveed Akram, 24. Naveed Akram “was a follower of notorious Sydney jihadist preacher Wisam Haddad,” the ABC alleges, citing counterterrorism officials. Now, Australia, a nation with some of the world’s strictest gun laws, is considering making them even more stringent. If they want to stop another massacre in its tracks, there’s another, very obvious, much more efficacious solution.
