Axios: Guess What Democrats Have Stopped Talking About?

Here’s a hint: It’s something that Democrats could not shut up about for the last four years. No, it’s not Defund the Police. That mission still gets some support from the progressive/socialist vanguard, as we see in New York City. And you know it’s not about Donald Trump and his supposed “threat to democracy.”

So which Democrat dog has ceased its barking? The one that barked up the wrong energy tree, according to an Axios review of Democrat speeches and social-media accounts:

Democrats aren’t explicitly disavowing the Green New Deal, but they’ve abruptly stopped talking about it as they scramble to find new ways to talk about climate change.

• Over the past three months, Democrats in Congress collectively said “Green New Deal” only six times across social media and on the floor.
• That’s the fewest mentions since the proposal rose to prominence in the fall of 2018, according to data from the legislative tracking service Quorum.

That doesn’t mean All Quiet on the Green Front, as we’ll see momentarily. The immediate question is why Democrats have suddenly shut up about the progressive wing’s most treasured agenda set. The Green New Deal was their entrée to true redistristributionism, not to mention a more-or-less nationalized energy industry. The GND was to industry what ObamaCare was to healthcare for progressives — an opening by which to seize the means of production via regulatory capture.

So why shut up about it now? One potential reason: voters began to figure out that it was to industry what ObamaCare was to health care, and wanted no part of it. 

The second potential reason may be more applicable. Joe Biden actually managed to get a big chunk of the Green New Deal through Congress by calling it the Inflation Reduction Act. His administration then took that cash and just handed it out to progressive orgs run by cronies like Stacey Abrams. As we found out a few weeks ago, the Biden Regency gave out $90 billion in “loans” from the IRA after losing the election, with $42 billion going out the door in the last two days of Biden’s wretched term. The EPA is trying to claw back that money now, and the massive spending binge is raising a lot of questions that Democrats don’t want to answer. 

To paraphrase a wise axiom: It’s better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a crook than to open it and remove all doubt for prosecutors and juries.

The Green New Deal was nothing more than a grift, a way to pay back progressive activists and fund later political activities that benefit Democrats. I wrote this year that this, as well as much of the USAID spending, resembles an American version of Adscam on steroids. For Democrats, the less said about that, the better.

For Republicans? Just the opposite, as Axios also notices:

Over the same 3-month period, Republicans mentioned “Green New Deal” 337 times as they continue to believe that what President Trump calls the “Green New Scam” is a losing issue for Democrats.

Just how much of a losing issue is it? It’s certainly not a high priority, as the Harvard-Harris CAPS poll has consistently shown this year. Its July iteration shows only 12% name it among “the most important issues facing the country today,” coming in tenth on the list. It’s low enough on the list that Harvard-Harris CAPS doesn’t bother to break out its results on the question at all, but one can presume from this that the only demos showing any passion on the issue are likely the progressive-socialists who hoped to use it to seize the means of production. 

It’s not just their mouths where this dog has ceased to bark. It’s also on paper:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts have not reintroduced their Green New Deal resolution that had become one of their signature initiatives (they introduced it in April 2023 of the last Congress).

The gig is up and the grift is over. Lee Zeldin wants to ensure that with his effort to overturn the 2009 endangerment finding at the EPA that enabled the Green New Deal grift. That truly needs to be the highest priority of the EPA and DoJ, apart from the Russiagate probes, given its ability to give the grifters the control they seek. Democrats don’t want to talk about it, but we should speak loudly and consistently to defeat their agenda for good.
