A New York City police officer was shot in the shoulder Tuesday morning while attempting to serve a search warrant at a Manhattan housing complex, authorities confirmed.

The incident unfolded around 5:10 a.m. at a building on Madison Street within the Vladeck Houses development.

Officers from the NYPD Emergency Services Unit were attempting to execute a search warrant when the suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment, according to police sources.
Shortly after officers arrived, the suspect opened fire through his apartment door, discharging between three and five rounds.
No officers were hit during the initial gunfire, police said.
For several hours, NYPD negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation. However, at approximately 8:25 a.m., the suspect fired again, striking an officer in the shoulder.
The wounded officer was quickly transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Following the second round of gunfire, police officers appeared to return fire, wounding the suspect, according to sources.
The suspect’s condition was not immediately available.
At around 9:00 a.m., the NYPD confirmed that the barricaded man had been taken into custody.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding the suspect’s identity or the nature of the search warrant being executed.
