Speculation surrounding the state of Barack and Michelle Obama’s marriage has been circulating for months, with reports suggesting the former first couple is living “separate lives.”

The rumors have intensified following Michelle Obama’s absence from key events and reports that major donors have distanced themselves from the Obamas.

The speculation first gained momentum in December when Michelle Obama was notably absent from former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

Last month, Meghan McCain added to the speculation, saying she had heard from “very reputable people” that a divorce between the Obamas was in the works.

Speaking on political reporter Tara Palmeri’s podcast, Somebody’s Gotta Win with Tara Palmeri, McCain shared what she had been told.

“I have been hearing this rumor that the Obamas are getting a divorce from very reputable people,” McCain said.

“I’m not talking about TMZ. I’m not talking about Perez Hilton, although I love him, he’s my friend. I’m talking about serious journalists telling me the divorce rumors are true.”

Despite the growing speculation, the Obamas have attempted to dismiss the rumors by posting affectionate messages on social media.

On Valentine’s Day, both Barack and Michelle shared identical posts on their respective accounts.

Michelle Obama wrote, “If there’s one person I can always count on, it’s you, @BarackObama. You’re my rock. Always have been. Always will be. Happy Valentine’s Day, honey! ❤️”

Barack Obama posted the same image with the caption, “Thirty-two years together and you still take my breath away. Happy Valentine’s Day, @MichelleObama!”

However, some observers remain skeptical, pointing out that the couple has not been seen together in public for months.

Adding to the speculation, Barack Obama has been seen publicly on multiple occasions without Michelle.

He was recently spotted attending a Los Angeles Clippers game alone and later seen at dinner with his daughters, Malia and Sasha—again, without Michelle.

This pattern of separate outings has led some to speculate that the Obamas may be quietly preparing for a separation.
