Beaten Down To A Science: Massive Brawl In Cincinnati Shows Where Lines Are Drawn

The range of appropriate responses to an insult is broad. You might look the other way. You might come up with an insult of your own. You might even throw a punch — say, if a man impugned your wife’s honor. One option which does not occur to civilized people is to beat the heckler or harasser within an inch of their life.

Civilization has yet to reach Cincinnati, where viral footage appears to show a mob of attackers punching, kicking, and otherwise assaulting several victims. One video shows onlookers jeering as men and women stomp a man curled up on the street. Another shows a woman sprawled on the sidewalk with blood streaming from her mouth. Cincinnati’s officials struck an odd tone in their public statements. Vice President JD Vance took a different route: “What I saw is a mob of lawless thugs beating up on an innocent person, and it’s disgusting.
