In a victory for American energy independence, the House has passed legislation preventing future presidents from imposing unilateral bans on fracking, ensuring that any such decision requires congressional approval.
The bill, spearheaded by Texas Republican Rep. August Pfluger, sailed through the chamber with a 226-188 vote, including support from just 16 Democrats, as reported by The Independent Journal Review.
The Protecting American Energy Production Act aims to put a stop to federal fracking bans, a tactic previously wielded by the Biden administration to suffocate domestic fossil fuel production.
Pfluger hailed the House’s approval as a crucial step toward undoing the left’s relentless assault on America’s energy sector.
“When President Biden took office, his administration took a ‘whole of government’ approach to wage war on American energy production, pandering to woke environmental extremists and crippling this thriving industry. My legislation that passed today is a necessary first step in reversing Biden’s war on energy by preventing the federal government from banning the use of hydraulic fracturing. Fracking is a safe, clean, and effective way to produce affordable energy and strengthen our national security.”

Pfluger further emphasized that the bill advances former President Donald Trump’s pro-energy agenda, which seeks to restore America’s dominance in the oil and gas sector.
“As the representative of the most prolific oil and gas producing region in the country, this bill is critical to protect regions like the Permian Basin,” he said.
However, the bill’s fate in the Senate remains uncertain. At least seven Senate Democrats must side with Republicans to overcome the 60-vote filibuster threshold.
Similar legislation championed by former South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan passed the House in 2024 but met its demise when then-Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer refused to bring it to the floor.

Fracking has been a political flashpoint, particularly in the 2024 election cycle. Former Vice President Kamala Harris notably flip-flopped on her stance, raising eyebrows over her credibility on the issue.
Meanwhile, President Trump wasted no time in reversing Biden-era policies that strangled energy production. He swiftly lifted restrictions on liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and opened up new production opportunities in Alaska, reaffirming his commitment to energy independence.

As the chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee, Pfluger remains a vocal advocate for America’s energy workers and consumers.
With gas prices and inflation still major concerns for everyday Americans, blocking future White House overreach on fracking is a commonsense move to keep energy production strong and secure for generations to come.
