Bill Clinton’s Sgt. Schultz Act: I Knew Nothing, I Saw Nothing About Epstein

So … Bill Clinton appeared at the House Oversight Committee today to answer questions about Jeffrey Epstein. Clinton not only rode on Epstein’s private jet more than two dozen times, but Ghislaine Maxwell also had some involvement in the Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). Both Bill and Hillary should have had a lot to say about their involvement in the Epstein-Maxwell clique.

Thanks to an anonymous source who left the video of Clinton’s opening statement in a hermetically sealed mayonnaise jar on Funk & Wagnall’s porch, we can present you with a key clip of the former president’s declaration:

Hmmm. Wrong porch, perhaps. Same argument, however:

Bill Clinton plans to testify that he did nothing wrong and had “no idea” about the crimes Jeffrey Epstein was committing — nor did he see anything that “ever gave me pause” — according to his prepared opening statement to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

“As someone who grew up in a home with domestic abuse, not only would I not have flown on his plane if I had any inkling of what he was doing — I would have turned him in myself and led the call for justice for his crimes, not sweetheart deals,” the former president said in his statement, which he posted on X.

Bill Clinton also blasted the committee for forcing his wife to testify:

The prepared remarks also lambasted the Republican-led committee for demanding testimony from his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who spent over six hours answering questions Thursday during her own deposition.

She testified that she does not recall meeting Epstein and denied any knowledge of his sex trafficking offenses with longtime co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell.

“Whether you subpoenaed 10 people or 10,000, including her was simply not right,” he said in the statement.

Oh, really? Perhaps the former president missed a blockbuster report in the New York Times three weeks ago that put Hillary Clinton right in the middle of the Epstein scandal. Hillary claimed yesterday in her testimony that she could not recall meeting Epstein, but she had plenty of contact with Maxwell, Epstein’s co-conspirator in sex trafficking, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison (now in a minimum-security facility in Texas). Maxwell not only helped the Clintons launch CGI, she helped raise funds for it:

Ms. Maxwell took part in budget discussions related to the first Clinton Global Initiative conference; talked through challenges about it with both Clinton aides and Publicis Groupe, the company that produced the inaugural event; and arranged to wire $1 million to pay Publicis for its work on “the Clinton project,” according to emails in the massive cache of documents collected as part of the government’s investigations of Mr. Epstein.

The source of the money is unclear, including whether Mr. Epstein provided the funds. However, the emails show that he was aware of the payment.

“Ask him to tell you why i million now and where will it be going,” Mr. Epstein wrote to Ms. Maxwell a few days after she received the wiring instructions from Publicis.

Ms. Maxwell’s involvement in the launch of the Clinton Global Initiative took place in 2004, before Mr. Epstein’s 2006 indictment and 2008 guilty plea for solicitation of prostitution with a minor, and long before Ms. Maxwell, a daughter of the media baron Robert Maxwell, was sentenced in 2022 to two decades in prison for conspiring with Mr. Epstein to sexually exploit underage girls.

That may be true. However, the Clintons invited Maxwell to Chelsea’s wedding in 2010, the NYT recalls, after Epstein’s conviction in 2008, when Maxwell was believed to be at least implicated in those activities:

She was already known to have attended Chelsea Clinton’s 2010 wedding along with her then-boyfriend, Ted Waitt, a tech billionaire who was a friend of the Clintons’ and a prolific Clinton Foundation donor. And she remained in the Clinton orbit even after reports began surfacing accusing her of misconduct related to Mr. Epstein’s abuse of young women. Ms. Maxwell told the Justice Department last year that she last saw Mr. Clinton sometime between 2016 and 2018, when she said they had dinner together in Los Angeles.

In a Justice Department interview last year, Ms. Maxwell said that “President Clinton was my friend, not Epstein’s friend.” Her lawyer did not return requests for comment.

In other words, Hillary Clinton was clearly connected to the Epstein-Maxwell axis and the money it provided. Bill Clinton may have been more connected earlier to Epstein, but both Clintons had no problem palling around with Epstein’s procurer and trafficker well after his conviction in 2008.

Hillary tried to play the Trump card yesterday, in fact, as a distraction from these documented connections:

Epstein’s ties to Bill Clinton go as far back as the early 1990s. In 1993, Epstein and Maxwell attended a donors’ reception with then-President Clinton, and White House visitor logs show Epstein made several additional visits during this period. A decade later, Clinton flew repeatedly on Epstein’s private plane for foundation work promoting global health, including a high-profile Africa trip in 2002 with actors Kevin Spacey and Chris Tucker to tour HIV/AIDS project sites.

Bill Clinton has acknowledged flying on Epstein’s private jet in 2002 and 2003 in support of the Clinton Foundation and has said he never visited Epstein’s private island.

In her own deposition on Thursday, Hillary Clinton said she had no knowledge of Epstein’s wrongdoing, and said the committee was engaged in a fishing expedition designed to distract from President Trump’s past ties to Epstein.

Trump’s connections to Epstein ended in 2004, well before his conviction. Trump didn’t invite Epstein or Maxwell to family events after 2008, nor did he drum up donations from Maxwell or Epstein in the years before or after that plea deal. Someone’s involved in a distraction campaign, but it isn’t House Republicans.

In the end, we probably won’t ever get a full accounting of the Clinton-Epstein-Maxwell connection. The media’s not interested in pursuing it, although the NYT deserves credit for reporting on it in anticipation of these hearings. If these hearings and the files can’t do damage to Trump, expect the Protection Racket Media to lose interest quickly.
