Bill Maher Rips The View After Whoopi’s Iran Comparison Meltdown [WATCH]

Comedian and HBO host Bill Maher took aim at ABC’s The View during a recent episode of his show, criticizing the program over comments made by co-host Whoopi Goldberg.

The criticism came after Goldberg attempted to compare the experience of black Americans to that of women in Iran during a segment on her show last week.

Maher addressed the topic during a panel discussion about recent political developments, including the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Tennessee’s ban on transgender medical procedures for minors.

While discussing the ruling and broader cultural issues, Maher referenced Goldberg’s remarks.

“What did you think of Whoopi Goldberg saying it’s worse to be a black person in America today than a woman in Iran?” Maher asked his panel, prompting laughter from the audience.

He continued, “You know, we were talking about the trans issue before, and The New York Times really has come over on that, to sort of the sensible, liberal, not crazy woke position. I think this is a great first step toward getting the Democrats back to sanity. And a second good step would be, we’ve got to do something about The View.”

The panel responded with more laughter. Humorist Dave Barry added, “It’s huge in Iran, though,” referencing The View’s popularity in a satirical tone.

Maher continued, “When I imagine The View in Iran, all with the same head cover, you can’t even tell which one is which,” prompting additional laughter from the audience.

Joining the conversation was Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX), who also criticized Goldberg’s comments.

Hunt represents a congressional district in Texas that is majority white and heavily Republican.

“My district in the great state of Texas is actually a white-majority district that President Trump would have won by 25 points,” Hunt said.

“As I said, I’m a direct descendant of a slave. My great-great-grandfather was born on a Rosedown plantation.”

He continued, “I am literally being judged not by the color of my skin but by the content of my character. That’s the progress, because, like, a lot of white people had to vote for me. A lot.”

Referring directly to Goldberg’s comments, Hunt added, “So I don’t even ever want to hear Whoopi Goldberg’s conversation about how it’s worse to be black in America right now. That’s a bit far.”

Hunt also spoke about the progress made by his family in a single generation.

“My father, who’s 75 years old, he was a man that was in the French Quarter that had to go get a sandwich through the back door of the building. And his son is now a United States Congressman in a white-majority district in Texas as a Republican. That is America. That’s America. Let’s celebrate that.”

Maher’s remarks, along with those of Rep. Hunt, reflect ongoing criticism of The View for its political commentary and frequent on-air controversies.
