During an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, ESPN sports commentator and media personality Stephen A. Smith offered sharp criticism of the Democratic Party’s priorities, suggesting their focus on niche issues may have alienated voters and contributed to the re-election of the former president.
Smith’s remarks touched on the party’s perceived failure to align with the concerns of the majority, contrasting this with the former president’s ability to fulfill campaign promises, even through controversial means like executive orders.
Smith questioned the Democratic Party’s ability to resonate with everyday voters, pointing out that some of their priorities seemed out of touch with the concerns of the broader electorate.

Using transgender rights as an example, Smith said, “The man was impeached twice. He was convicted on 34 felony counts, and the American people still said he’s closer to normal than what we said Zach left. That’s what they’re saying. He’s close to the normal. Why? Because something that pertains when you talk about the transgender community, for example, and you talking about the issues that pertain to less than 1% of the population. The Democratic Party came, of course, as if that was a priority more so than the other issues.”
Smith argued that voters are seeking leaders who address their most pressing concerns, suggesting that the Democratic Party failed to provide that.
“What voter out there can look at the Democratic Party at this moment in time and say, there’s a voice for us, somebody that speaks for us, that goes up on Capitol Hill and fights the fights that we want them fighting on our behalf? They didn’t do that, and that’s why their behind is at home, and that man is back into the White House,” Smith said.
Smith also highlighted the former president’s focus on delivering on campaign promises, even when his methods were met with legal and political opposition.
“He knows that’s not going to pass the mustard, but he knows that he made that promise. So when he shows up week one on Capitol Hill, he says, ‘This is what we’re going to do through an executive order, even though it’s going to be shot down through the courts.’ And what have you, he’s saying, ‘I kept my promise.’”
This, Smith argued, contrasted sharply with the Democratic Party’s approach.
“Then you turn around and you look at the left and you say, what promises did you keep? Now you might know the answer to that. I’m certainly not questioning your knowledge about that at all. What I’m saying is what resonated with the voter,” he said.
Smith further explained that the former president’s re-election was a reflection of his ability to connect with voters and deliver on his promises, even when his methods drew widespread criticism.
“Look at the networks right now, they’re talking about, look at it. This is the latest. Look at him. Here he goes again. Well, you know what? ‘Here he goes again’ means he’s doing what he said he was going to do. He promised you he was going to do these things. And he walked into office week one, and that’s exactly what he’s doing. And he said, y’all do something about it.”
Smith ended by emphasizing that the former president’s approach stood in stark contrast to the Democratic Party’s perceived lack of effectiveness.
“When you try to do something about it, he’s going to say, ‘Look at them now. Now they’re concerned about these issues. Were they talking about that during the campaign? Hell no. That’s really it,’” Smith concluded.
Stephen A Smith stuns the Bill Maher crowd into silence as he articulates how Democrats have no one left fighting for the American people:

Smith’s remarks on Real Time with Bill Maher highlighted what he views as a critical issue for the Democratic Party: their inability to address voter priorities in a way that resonates.
His commentary serves as a call for introspection within the party, particularly as they prepare to face off against a president whose base continues to see him as a leader who delivers on his promises, even in the face of controversy.
