A scene from Taylor Sheridan’s new series Landman, streaming on Paramount+, has gained significant attention for its sharp critique of wind turbines and green energy.

The viral moment comes from the third episode, which debuted Sunday, and features a candid conversation about the environmental costs of renewable energy.

The scene centers on oil company fixer Tommy Norris, portrayed by Billy Bob Thornton, in a discussion with an attorney, played by Kayla Wallace.

Thornton’s character dismantles the perception of wind turbines as a green energy solution, highlighting the resources required for their production and maintenance.

“Do you have any idea how much diesel they had to burn to mix that much concrete?” Norris asks in the scene.

He continues, “You want to guess how much oil it takes to lubricate that [expletive] thing? Or winterize it? In its 20-year lifespan, it won’t offset the carbon footprint of making it.”

The scene doesn’t stop at wind turbines.

Thornton’s character also targets other aspects of the green energy movement, including solar panels and electric vehicles.

“And don’t get me started on solar panels and the lithium in your Tesla battery,” he says. “And never mind the fact that, if the whole world decided to go electric tomorrow, we don’t have the transmission lines to get the electricity to the cities. It’d take 30 years if we started tomorrow.”

The dialogue encapsulates skepticism toward the practicality and environmental benefits of renewable energy sources, raising questions about the infrastructure and resources required to support a large-scale shift away from fossil fuels.

Landman is the latest project from Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone and other hit series.

The show is inspired by the popular podcast Boomtown, which focuses on the oil industry. Set in West Texas, Landman follows Thornton’s character as he navigates the high-stakes world of oil production.

The series begins with Norris investigating a fatal accident, offering a gritty look at the industry and the controversies surrounding it.

The viral scene has sparked conversations online, with many praising Sheridan’s willingness to address controversial topics surrounding energy production and environmental policies.

The critique of wind turbines aligns with broader debates about the feasibility and unintended consequences of green energy initiatives.

Sheridan’s work often explores complex issues facing rural America, and Landman continues that tradition by delving into the oil industry and its intersection with environmental concerns.

As the series gains momentum, the viral moment from its third episode underscores the growing attention to renewable energy’s limitations and the ongoing discussions about the future of energy production.
