The assailant, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, turned a celebratory night on Bourbon Street into a scene of horror when he drove a truck into a crowd of revelers. After crashing his vehicle, Jabbar opened fire on responding officers, initiating a harrowing standoff captured on bodycam footage.

The video, released Friday, shows Jabbar firing his weapon from behind an airbag inside the truck as officers surrounded him. One officer, positioned near the driver’s door with his gun raised, can be seen reacting to a muzzle flash from Jabbar’s weapon.

In response, officers discharged their firearms in rapid succession, attempting to neutralize the threat.

During a press conference, NOPD officials confirmed that three officers returned fire after Jabbar began shooting.

The footage also reveals officers diving for cover as bullets were exchanged at close range. Two officers positioned near the driver’s door and a third officer stationed in front of the truck, though unseen in the footage, fired at Jabbar to stop his attack.
