Attorney General Pam Bondi sharply criticized House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) during a tense Wednesday hearing, calling him a “washed-up, loser lawyer” as lawmakers sparred over the Justice Department’s handling of newly released Jeffrey Epstein records, as reported by The New York Post.

Bondi appeared before the committee following the public release of millions of files connected to the prosecution of deceased financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Several victims attended the hearing.

Democrats on the committee accused Bondi of disregarding victims and of allowing the Department of Justice to release documents that identified some of them, while redacting the names of individuals within Epstein’s circle.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

During one exchange, Raskin pressed Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to restore time to retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) as Bondi did not directly respond to questions regarding potential indictments of alleged Epstein co-conspirators.

“You can let her filibuster all day long, but not on our watch — not on our time, no way,” Raskin said. “And I told you about that, Attorney General, before you started.”

“You don’t tell me anything,” Bondi responded, before referring to Raskin as a “washed-up, loser lawyer — not even a lawyer.”

Bondi then addressed Nadler, stating: “You said the president conspired, sought foreign interference in the 2016 election. Robert Mueller found no evidence, none, of foreign interference in 2016. Have you apologized to President Trump?

“You all should be apologizing. You sit here, and you attack the president, and I am not going to have it. I’m not going to put up with it,” she continued.

“None of them asked [former Attorney General] Merrick Garland, over the last four years, one word about Jeffrey Epstein. How ironic is that? You know why? Because Donald Trump.”

Much of the questioning from Democrats — along with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) — focused on the release of what has been described as the “Epstein files.”

Lawmakers raised concerns that the department was shielding certain individuals potentially implicated in criminal conduct.

At one point, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) asked Epstein victims and family members present to stand and raise their hands if they “had not been able to meet with this Department of Justice.”

Bondi responded without turning toward Jayapal, saying, “Why didn’t she ask Merrick Garland this twice when he sat in my chair? I’m not going to get in the gutter for her theatrics.”

Massie and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) co-authored legislation signed by President Donald Trump in November that made public more than 3 million pages of investigative materials related to Epstein and his convicted associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

Since the release, Massie, Khanna, and other lawmakers have questioned why certain names believed to be potential co-conspirators were redacted, while some victims’ names appeared without redaction.

“If any man’s name was redacted that should not have been, we will of course unredact it,” Bondi said. “If a victim’s name was unredacted, please bring it to us, and we will redact it.”

Massie later presented three documents he described as “emblematic of the massive failure of the DOJ to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.”

Bondi moved past the criticism, telling Jordan that Massie “has Trump Derangement Syndrome” and describing him as a “failed politician.”

Bondi also used her testimony to reference Democrats and donors who had contact with Epstein before his July 2019 federal arrest, including after his 2008 guilty plea to soliciting a minor for prostitution, which required him to register as a sex offender.

The hearing included a discussion of text messages sent during a 2019 House Oversight Committee proceeding involving then-Trump attorney Michael Cohen.

U.S. Virgin Islands Delegate Stacey Plaskett, a Democrat, had exchanged messages with Epstein during that session.

A spokesperson later said that “Plaskett received texts from staff, constituents and the public at large offering advice, support and in some cases partisan vitriol, including from Epstein.”

Former Bondi chief of staff Chad Mizelle commented on the hearing, saying: “Jerry Nadler attacking Attorney General Bondi over Epstein, while his colleague Rep. Plaskett was using Jeffrey Epstein as a confidant and adviser, is the height of hypocrisy.”

He added: “The Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee did nothing to bring justice and transparency to the Epstein saga. Attorney General Pam Bondi has.”
