A British tourist was arrested Monday morning after a destructive outburst at Hong Kong International Airport that left multiple check-in kiosks and airport fixtures damaged, according to local reports and video footage of the incident, as reported by The New York Post.

The 35-year-old man was reportedly in the process of purchasing a plane ticket before the situation escalated, Viral Press reported.

Video captured at the airport shows the bald traveler walking up to a row of automated check-in machines and forcefully pushing them over, one after another.

In the footage, the man then grabs a metal stanchion and uses it to strike one of the fallen kiosks as bystanders watch the scene unfold. Witnesses appear stunned as the traveler continues the destruction in full view of airport passengers.

According to reports, the man damaged 10 check-in machines during the episode. In addition to the kiosks, he reportedly caused damage to metal barriers, nearby counters and a glass panel in the terminal area.

Airport officials confirmed that staff and security responded quickly to the disturbance.

Airport staff and security personnel “rushed to the scene and warned the man to stop causing further damage,” an airport spokesperson said.

Law enforcement officers then detained the suspect and launched an investigation into the incident, according to Viral Press. Authorities have not released the man’s name.

Upon detaining him, officers discovered that he was carrying four Viagra pills without a prescription. The possession of the medication without proper authorization may carry additional legal consequences under Hong Kong law.

If convicted, the suspect could face up to 10 years in prison for “criminal damage.” He could also face up to two years in prison for illegal possession of a “Part 1 poison,” according to A View From the Wing.

Local media reported that the British national had arrived in Hong Kong in November on a visa valid for six months. Authorities have not publicly disclosed his motive for the rampage.

The Hong Kong incident follows other recent airport disruptions. In December, a separate traveler created a disturbance at Kansas City International Airport on New Year’s Eve.

During that episode, the passenger threatened to “slap” female Southwest Airlines workers while shouting at staff and using a racist slur.

No additional details have been released about the Hong Kong suspect’s court appearance or current custody status as the investigation continues.
