Rep. Norma Torres (D-CA) is facing widespread criticism after posting a message on social media demanding that federal immigration officers leave Los Angeles, just as violent protests escalated across the city in response to ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.
In a video posted to TikTok, Torres said, “ICE get the f**k out of LA so that order can be restored.”
The post was made amid ongoing clashes between protesters and federal officers in multiple areas of the city, particularly near the downtown district and locations where ICE teams have been executing deportation orders.

Torres, who immigrated from Guatemala and became a U.S. citizen in the 1990s, has frequently voiced support for immigrant communities.
However, her latest comments drew immediate backlash from conservative figures, lawmakers, and public commentators, many of whom accused the congresswoman of inciting further unrest.
The account Libs of TikTok reposted the video to X, writing, “This is a sitting member of Congress.”

Other high-profile accounts echoed similar sentiments, with some demanding that Torres be held accountable for her remarks.
“Arrest her now,” posted the influential MAGA-aligned account Catturd.

White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung also commented on the video, describing the congresswoman’s remarks as “demonic possession” in a post on X.
Torres’ video was posted just as tensions in Los Angeles continued to escalate.
Riots broke out following a series of targeted ICE raids aimed at individuals with final deportation orders.
Protesters clashed with federal agents throughout the weekend, with numerous reports of projectiles, including rocks, being thrown at officers.
Federal sources confirmed that multiple ICE agents sustained minor injuries as a result of flying debris during the riots.
Vehicles and federal buildings were also damaged during the confrontations.
In response to the escalating violence, President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area.
The deployment was intended to support local and federal law enforcement efforts to restore order and prevent further attacks on federal personnel.
“This deployment is necessary to maintain peace and protect those enforcing the law,” a senior White House official said, noting the similarities to previous unrest in 2020, when state and local officials were criticized for their slow response.
Despite calls for clarification or retraction, Rep. Torres has not removed the video or responded to requests for comment.
The congresswoman’s office did not immediately return a request for further statement regarding the backlash.
The situation in Los Angeles remains volatile, with ICE operations continuing under federal mandate.
The National Guard presence is expected to remain active as officials work to contain further unrest and prevent harm to personnel and property.
