Minnesota Governor Tim Walz sparked controversy this week after claiming his masculinity “scares” conservatives, prompting a sharp response from Olympic gold medalist and public figure Caitlyn Jenner, who declared on social media, “I am more ‘masculine’ than this Gov Walz.”

Jenner made the comment Wednesday on X, while reacting to an interview clip from Walz’s appearance on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s podcast, This Is Gavin Newsom.
In the podcast, Walz and Newsom discussed the perception of masculinity in politics and how Democrats are often labeled by critics.

During the conversation, Newsom advised Democrats to shift their rhetoric when talking about political opponents.
“I think if we say people are misogynists, then we’re falling prey, we’re in that frame,” Newsom said.
“Not everybody that disagrees with us is a misogynist.”
Newsom continued, “This notion of toxicity in masculinity needs to be separated, and I think it’s been conflated, and I think we’re going to have to work on that a little bit — and look, there is a crisis with men.”

Walz then added, “I think I scare them a little bit, [it’s] why they spend so much time on me,” prompting laughter from Newsom.
“No, I’m serious,” Walz said. “Because I can fix a truck. They know I’m not bullshitting on this. But I’m not putting in this people’s grill. My identity is not hunting. My identity is not football coaching. My identity is not a beard and a truck.”

In a separate part of the interview, Walz addressed the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, saying, “I think I could kick most of their ass. I do think that,” and added that he believed he could “outrun” them as well.

Online reaction to Walz’s comments quickly spread, with many social media users mocking the governor’s statements.
Several referenced previous legislation signed by Walz requiring menstrual products, including tampons, to be stocked in boys’ school restrooms.
“With what, tampons?!” one X user commented in reply to Walz’s claim.
“Mr. Stolen Valor, still pretending,” another wrote.
One user responded to Walz’s tough talk by referencing his security detail: “standing behind bodyguards ‘I’ll beat your A$$.’”
“Embarrassing clown,” another comment read.
A user added: “@GovTimWalz couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag. And he’s still putting out the same old taking points ‘racism, sexism, all the ism’s.’ He’s a joke.”
“Tim Walz is one of the biggest pussies in the Democratic Party,” another user said. “And that’s saying a lot because they’re all f—— pussies.”
As of Friday, Walz has not issued a public response to Jenner’s comment or to the widespread online criticism following the interview.
The conversation continues to generate national attention amid broader discussions about gender, identity, and political messaging within the Democratic Party.
