In a move no one saw coming, Canada, under the floundering leadership of Justin Trudeau, finally caved to President Donald Trump’s relentless pressure.
As reported by Gateway Hispanic, the Canadian government has now officially classified five major Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations—an unprecedented shift from its previous soft-on-crime stance.
As of February, Trudeau’s administration has designated the Sinaloa Cartel, Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Gulf Cartel, New Michoacán Family, and United Cartels as terrorist entities.

This puts them on the same level as groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. According to Canada’s Public Safety Minister David McGuinty, this classification will give law enforcement stronger tools to combat the flow of fentanyl and dismantle these violent syndicates.
But let’s be real—Trudeau didn’t wake up one morning and suddenly decide to get tough on crime. This was a direct response to Trump’s America-first crackdown on the cartels, something the left scoffed at just months ago.

Since returning to the White House on January 20, President Trump has made it clear that ending the cartel crisis is a top priority. His administration wasted no time.
By February 19, Secretary of State Marco Rubio had already declared eight major Latin American criminal groups as terrorist organizations, including the five now recognized by Canada.

Trump also sent a warning shot north: either Canada and Mexico take real action, or they face hefty 25% tariffs. The message was received loud and clear.
Trudeau, the self-proclaimed champion of “progressive values,” crumbled under the weight of reality. His government not only announced the new terrorist designations but also pledged to deploy 10,000 troops to the U.S.-Canada border—just as Trump had demanded.
Meanwhile, Mexico, still under the leftist control of Claudia Sheinbaum, is throwing a tantrum. The Mexican government calls the move a violation of its sovereignty, but let’s be honest—what it really fears is losing control of its cozy arrangements with these criminal networks.
The road to this decision started on Trump’s first day back in office when he signed Executive Order 14157. The directive tasked the State Department with evaluating cartels as terrorist organizations, something left-wing pundits dismissed as impossible.
Yet, just one month later, the list was official. The administration’s goal? Freeze assets, cut off cartel funding, and ramp up counterterrorism operations.

At first, Trudeau played his usual game—dodging the issue and virtue-signaling about diplomacy. But by early February, when the tariff threats became real, his resistance collapsed.
On February 3, he signaled a shift. By February 20, Canada had officially added seven criminal groups to its list of terrorists, five of them Mexican.

Once again, Trump forced the globalist elites to face reality. While Mexico still clings to its performative outrage, Canada has fallen in line.
Trudeau, who spent years promoting open borders and soft justice, just handed Trump a major win. And whether he admits it or not, it’s Trump’s leadership—not Trudeau’s principles—that made this happen.
