A Canadian man faces federal and state charges after a violent series of incidents at Miami International Airport during a layover in December 2024.
Cameron Dylan McDougall, 28, of Toronto, pleaded guilty earlier this month in federal court to two counts of assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officers following a series of altercations involving airline passengers and airport security personnel.
The events began on December 27, 2024, when McDougall allegedly struck a fellow passenger aboard Copa Airlines Flight CM118 traveling from Panama City, Panama, to Toronto, Canada.

The disturbance prompted the flight crew to divert the plane to Miami International Airport, where McDougall was removed from the aircraft.
Despite the midair altercation, McDougall was not immediately arrested upon landing in Miami.
Authorities instead allowed him to remain in the United States overnight and advised him to arrange alternative travel plans.
He subsequently booked a flight back to Canada via Air Canada for the following morning.

However, on December 28, around 6:37 a.m., McDougall became involved in a second incident at the airport.
According to court documents and reports from WPLG Local 10, after passing through the TSA checkpoint, McDougall, without provocation, struck another passenger.
A security guard who tried to intervene was also assaulted.
Shortly after that initial confrontation, McDougall returned to the security screening area and approached a TSA supervisor.
As captured on airport surveillance video, McDougall attempted to punch the supervisor, who was able to avoid the strikes.
However, a second TSA officer who stepped in to assist was struck in the face multiple times.
The officer sustained minor injuries.
The altercation escalated into a broader struggle with multiple officers attempting to subdue McDougall.
Surveillance footage, which was released to the public this week, shows McDougall being knocked over a screening bin cart during the scuffle and continuing to resist arrest.
He was eventually restrained and taken into custody by officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department.

On May 19, McDougall pleaded guilty in federal court to the two assault charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 30.
Each count carries a maximum sentence of up to one year in federal prison.
In addition to the federal charges, McDougall is also facing criminal charges in Florida.
Miami-Dade court records show he has been charged with three felony counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and one misdemeanor battery charge related to the incident at the airport.
McDougall is scheduled to appear in state court on June 2 for those proceedings.
