A group of Catholics held a Rosary Rally outside the home of Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Sunday after critics said she mocked the sacrament of Communion in a Doritos video.
Whitmer placed a chip in MSNBC columnist Liz Plank’s mouth during a podcast interview Thursday, which upset Catholics who perceived the odd and seemingly sensual Dorito stunt to be a mockery of the Holy Eucharist. Despite Whitmer’s insistence that she did not intend disrespect the faith, religious advocacy group CatholicVote organized a “Rosary Rally for Religious Respect” at the governor’s doorstep.

One demonstrator said she participated because of Whiter’s “blasphemous and offensive video mocking the Holy Eucharist,” according to The Lansing State Journal.
“It’s our most sacred sacrament,” she told the outlet. “So, we came to pray. We came to pray for her and we are also praying out of mercy to pray for our Lord.”

Whitmer claimed the video with Plank was meant to promote the Biden-Harris administration’s 2022 CHIPS Act. Democrats defended the governor, saying she was participating in a viral TikTok meme format called “The Dilemma,” which features one friend awkwardly feeding another on camera, according to WJBK.
