A newly appointed CBS News contributor is facing scrutiny after newly released federal records revealed he exchanged hundreds of emails with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including messages containing crude jokes and personal banter years after Epstein’s criminal conviction, as reported by The New York Post.
Peter Attia, a well-known anti-aging physician and self-described longevity expert, was named as a contributor to CBS News on Jan. 27.
Just days later, a massive release of federal documents showed Attia maintained a lengthy and unusually familiar correspondence with Epstein.

The emails were part of a trove of roughly 3 million documents released Friday by the Department of Justice under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. According to the documents, Attia is referenced 1,741 times.
In the emails, which span multiple years, Attia frequently asked about Epstein’s well-being and referenced the financier’s lifestyle.

In one 2015 email with the subject line “Got a fresh shipment,” Attia wrote, “You [know] the biggest problem with becoming friends with you? The life you lead is so outrageous, and yet I can’t tell a soul…” A photo allegedly attached to the message was redacted in the document release.

Attia, now 52, is widely known for his work in metabolic health and longevity medicine. In several messages, he appeared to offer health-related advice to Epstein, including one 2016 email that drew particular attention.
“P***y is, indeed, low carb. Still awaiting results on gluten, though,” Attia wrote, eight years after Epstein had been convicted in Florida of procuring a child for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute.

In another exchange, Attia wrote to Epstein’s longtime assistant and planner, Lesley Groff, expressing that he would “go into JE withdrawal” if he did not see Epstein soon.
The timing of the revelations has raised questions inside and outside the network, as Attia’s CBS News appointment came just three days before the document release.
The network is undergoing an overhaul under its new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss.
The Epstein files also name a wide range of high-profile figures, including former UK ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson, Britain’s Prince Andrew, Bill Gates, New York Giants owner Steve Tisch, and the mother of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Epstein died by suicide in his New York City jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors.
Authorities have said he is believed to have victimized hundreds of women and children over several decades.
Neither Attia nor CBS News has publicly commented on the email exchanges as of publication.
