As reported by The Daily Caller, the shocking attack took place at Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park in China, and footage of the terrifying moment has since gone viral.

The performer, identified as 22-year-old Masha, was swimming gracefully among the tank’s other fish, entertaining the crowd, when out of nowhere, one of the massive creatures lunged at her.

In the chilling video, the fish can be seen locking its jaws around her entire face as children in the audience shrieked in terror. Reports indicate that the attack left Masha with injuries to her head, neck, and eye.

Images circulating in Russian media show the extent of her wounds, with clear signs of trauma from the vicious bite.

Adding insult to injury, Masha was allegedly given a laughable sum of around $97 in “moral damages” and then silenced by her employers, who seemingly wanted to sweep the incident under the rug.

According to reports, after the attack, she was ordered back into the aquarium despite suffering from significant pain. It appears her employer’s priority was more about maintaining the illusion of a magical underwater show than the well-being of the performer.

The aquarium where this nightmare unfolded houses native species from the Mekong and Yangtze Rivers, as well as other rare amphibians. However, there has been no official confirmation of the species of fish responsible for the attack.
