I wrote yesterday about how upset the “Ceasefire Now!” crowd is at the fact that Trump delivered what they had been demanding, but it hadn’t occurred to me to check out how the psychopaths on Bluesky were reacting.
Then I saw this, and decided to see for myself.
I checked in on BlueSky to see how people there are reacting to the release of the Israeli hostages, and it’s the eeriest thing. It’s not trending. There’s no mention of it on the “Explore” tab. I started scrolling the feed and went through hundreds of posts without seeing a…

I checked in on BlueSky to see how people there are reacting to the release of the Israeli hostages, and it’s the eeriest thing. It’s not trending. There’s no mention of it on the “Explore” tab. I started scrolling the feed and went through hundreds of posts without seeing a single one that mentioned it.
Instead, it’s all posts about Mamdani, John Oliver’s new episode criticizing Bari Weiss and Jamie Reed, the “No Kings” protest apparently happening this weekend, Taylor Swift, the Epstein Files, complaints about anti-vaxxers, and snarky takes insisting that Antifa doesn’t exist. That’s it.
It’s honestly blowing my mind how ideologically airtight that bubble is. If someone primarily gets their news by scrolling BlueSky, there’s a good chance they don’t even know that Trump negotiated a deal for the hostages and that they were released today.
And what’s even more mind blowing is that this echo chamber is entirely self-imposed. They weren’t banned from X. They left voluntarily, specifically to avoid encountering news or perspectives that might challenge their narrative.
I have a Bluesky account, just to have one, but I have only visited the site a couple of times. For all my joking about X being a cesspool with diamonds scattered among the sewage, being on it is akin to sniffing daisies compared to a visit to the hellscape that is Bluesky. And the irony is that Bluesky is where all the Best™ people, filled with compassion and love of truth and science, claim to congregate.
Since I don’t follow a lot of people on Bluesky, I decided to search for two terms to see what people are saying. Given the news cycle, I searched for “Trump” and “Gaza.”
Needless to say, I found nothing about Trump’s diplomatic triumph, but I did find out that he just got a COVID shot.
I’m not kidding. COVID is still a thing on Bluesky, although I couldn’t figure out whether they were happy they could “own” MAGA with this bit of news, or were disappointed that Trump was on their side on the issue. I suspect a few heads just exploded rather than resolve the cognitive dissonance.
Reminder: Trump vaccinates himself 👇🏽

There were almost no mentions of Trump’s success in negotiating a ceasefire and laying the groundwork for peace in the Middle East–most of the focus of the posts had to do with lawfare, Trump’s corruption, or an obsession with denigrating ICE.
Those that do mention the Middle East were either dismissive, hostile, or rewrote history.
My favorite part of the story is that the peace negotiations that were accepted were first brought to the table by Joe Biden’s administration, but the corrupt Netanyahu wanted to hand the win to Trump. This gave Netanyahu more time to enact cruelty and ruin lives.

OK, I have to admit that it probably is too much to ask that people whose sole reason for being is hating Donald Trump congratulate him for his success. It’s not as if anybody is obligated to point out that the object of their hate did something right, so I will give them a pass.
But what about the discourse on Gaza? They surely have to be celebrating the peace, right?
Yeah, well, no. Not really. Trump is involved. Bibi is involved. Both men still live, Israel stands, and Hamas is, at least temporarily, defeated. Where is the GOOD news?
Watching the Bibi & Don Show treat this like some grand victory, while people returning to northern Gaza dig the rubble for loved ones’ remains, is pretty revolting.

Bluesky really is an alternate universe. Colin Wright is correct that if you spend your time over there, you will have no idea what is going on. X, while hardly perfect, is much more ideologically diverse, and while it is possible to create for yourself an ideological bubble on X, it is impossible NOT to live in one on Bluesky because dissenters are kicked out almost immediately.
It’s a bizarre world where calling for the death of Republicans is pretty normal, but objecting to sterilizing children is hate speech.
Ironically, one of the first posts I saw before doing my search was from Nina Jankowicz, complaining that a new documentary about censorship was all conspiracy theorizing.
This week you might see conspiracy theorists touting a new documentary that alleges a vast censorship regime is “deciding what Americans are allowed to see, say, and even think.” They may have paid their on camera experts. 👀 wiczipedia.substack.com/p/the-grifte…

Only on Bluesky could the censorship queen pull that one off. I was unsurprised to see that she LOATHES Bari Weiss. Totally on brand.
“In the end, no milquetoast mediator can reason with the insatiable appetite of authoritarianism.” Every sentence is perfection 🤌

The one great thing about Bluesky is that the inmates are in an asylum of their own making.
