A suburban mother was hospitalized after a violent, unprovoked attack in downtown Chicago, as President Trump prepares to deploy the National Guard to address the city’s escalating crime crisis, as reported by The New York Post.
Kathleen Miles of Lake Villa, Illinois, was assaulted on August 19 while leaving work near Union Station. Miles, who commutes into the city once a week, was struck in the face by a stranger, leaving her with multiple broken bones, a concussion, and a black eye.
This must be stopped and if it takes an Army of men to go into these crime ridden cities to end it … Than DO IT https://t.co/W9d7mCNAWj

The suspect, 32-year-old William Livingston, has an extensive criminal history, including more than a dozen prior arrests for battery and aggravated assault dating back to 2012.
Arrest records reviewed by the New York Post show Livingston has been taken into custody at least 17 times since 2014, with many incidents involving attacks on women and law enforcement officers.
Miles was walking with a colleague when Livingston allegedly forced his way between them before launching the assault.

“She had said, ‘This man came in between the two of us, shoved us apart, and then hit me in the face,’” Miles recalled her co-worker telling her, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
Miles said she remembers nothing about the attack itself, only regaining consciousness in a hospital bed. “I woke up, and my co-worker was standing above me, saying, ‘You’re OK. You’re in the hospital. You’ve been assaulted,’” she explained.
After losing consciousness again, she later woke to find her daughter by her side. “The next thing I remember is my daughter, Deanna, saying, ‘Hi, Mama, I’m here. You’re OK.’”
Livingston was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with three counts of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, as well as reckless conduct.
Speaking from her hospital bed, Miles criticized city leaders and state officials for allowing repeat offenders like Livingston to continue circulating on Chicago’s streets.
“It’s 2025, and he’s out. And if he had been held accountable for his actions, then I wouldn’t be sitting here with injuries,” she said.

The attack comes as Chicago continues to grapple with rising violent crime. Over Labor Day weekend, 58 people were shot and eight were killed across the city.
President Trump has said he will send federal troops to Chicago, citing the need to restore order in one of the nation’s largest cities.
In remarks to reporters at the Oval Office, Trump declared, “We’re going in. I didn’t say when.” He added that he would prefer Illinois Governor JB Pritzker to request assistance but insisted federal action would proceed regardless.
“If the governor of Illinois would call up, call me up, I would love to do it. Now, we’re going to do it anyway. We have the right to do it.”
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Governor Pritzker have not yet commented on the timeline of Trump’s planned deployment.
