Chicago has recorded more than 1,500 shooting victims so far in 2025, according to updated figures from police and local reports.

The total includes both fatal and non-fatal cases as the city continues to grapple with persistent gun violence.

The Chicago Police Department’s Week 39 report, covering September 22 through 28, indicated that the number of shootings in the city had exceeded 1,100 by late September.

Days later, data from the Chicago Sun-Times showed that by the end of October 4, 2025, the combined total of fatal and non-fatal shooting victims had reached 1,500.

Those figures included 276 individuals who died from their injuries and 1,224 others who were wounded but survived.

The total reflects incidents documented across all major precincts, with several of the most recent shootings occurring over consecutive weekends.

By October 6, 2025—two days after the Sun-Times report—the number of victims had already climbed higher as new incidents were reported across multiple neighborhoods.

Breitbart News reported that at least 30 people were shot over the most recent weekend, with five fatalities among them.

CBS News separately documented a string of shootings that took place late Sunday, October 5, and early Monday, October 6.

The outlet reported nine separate shooting incidents on Sunday alone, followed by two more early Monday morning.

Police confirmed a total of 13 victims from those 11 shootings, one of whom was killed.

The rising numbers mark a continuation of a violent trend that has drawn national attention in recent years.

While overall crime statistics fluctuate from week to week, the volume of gun-related incidents remains high, particularly on weekends when large gatherings and street activity increase the likelihood of disputes turning deadly.

Police data show that many of the shootings occur in neighborhoods already struggling with high rates of gang activity and repeat offenders.

Investigators have cited illegal firearms trafficking and retaliatory violence as key drivers behind the ongoing surge.

Arrest data in previous months indicate that a significant portion of suspects in gun-related crimes were already under court supervision or had prior felony convictions.

City officials, led by Mayor Brandon Johnson, have emphasized community outreach and non-police interventions as part of their broader safety initiatives.

The administration has maintained that addressing root causes of violence—such as economic disparity and lack of youth opportunity—remains central to its long-term plan.

However, critics have argued that these measures have not yet translated into measurable reductions in shootings.

Police Superintendent Larry Snelling has previously acknowledged the scale of the challenge, saying that officers are “working around the clock to prevent retaliatory violence and remove illegal guns from the streets.”

He noted that department resources are being directed toward areas where intelligence shows the highest probability of weekend violence.

Analysts expect the city’s final 2025 tally of shooting victims to surpass last year’s totals if current patterns persist into the fall.

Both local and national law enforcement observers say the situation in Chicago remains one of the most closely watched indicators of urban gun crime across the country.
