Chris Cuomo’s television audience has shrunk dramatically since his days as a prime-time anchor on CNN, with new Nielsen ratings showing a nearly 90 percent decline since moving to NewsNation, as reported by The New York Post.
Cuomo, who previously hosted “Cuomo Prime Time” on CNN from 2018 to 2021, now anchors an evening show on NewsNation.
The latest quarterly ratings reveal his program is averaging just 164,000 total viewers and 15,000 viewers in the 25–54 advertising demographic. At his peak on CNN, Cuomo regularly attracted more than 1.4 million viewers, including 374,000 in the demo.

The current figures represent a drop of 90 percent in overall audience size and 95 percent in the key demo compared to his CNN run.
Even Cuomo’s final quarter at CNN in late 2021 — when his ratings had already fallen during his suspension and eventual firing — showed a stronger performance.
At that time, he averaged 797,000 total viewers and 165,000 in the demo, more than five times his present-day NewsNation audience.
Cuomo was dismissed from CNN in December 2021 after revelations that he advised his brother, then–New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, as the governor faced multiple sexual harassment allegations.

NewsNation later positioned Cuomo as the face of its primetime lineup when his new show debuted in October 2022.
However, ratings show his return has not generated momentum for the fledgling network. The 8 p.m. slot remains dominated by Fox News, where Jesse Watters draws an average of 3.1 million viewers and 310,000 in the demo.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes averages 874,000 viewers and 85,000 in the demo, while CNN’s Anderson Cooper pulls 539,000 and 92,000, respectively.
Even Newsmax has outpaced Cuomo in the key demographic. “Finnerty,” airing opposite Cuomo, averages 319,000 viewers and 25,000 in the demo.
Cuomo’s decline is especially notable when compared to his early 2021 CNN peak, when “Cuomo Prime Time” averaged 2.4 million viewers overall and more than 600,000 in the 25–54 demo during the height of the pandemic.
NewsNation, a rebranded version of WGN America launched in 2020, has marketed itself as an alternative offering centrist coverage.
The network has invested heavily in talent, hiring names such as Elizabeth Vargas and Leland Vittert, but ratings remain low compared to established cable outlets.
Despite efforts to use Cuomo’s profile to lift its standing, NewsNation has yet to break through in primetime. The New York Post has reached out to both Cuomo and NewsNation for comment.
