Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas sparked backlash Monday after calling President Donald Trump’s actions “diabolical” following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas that brought home the last 20 living hostages held in Gaza, as reported by The Western Journal.

The ceasefire, brokered under the leadership of President Trump, marked the formal end of the conflict that began with Hamas’ October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks against Israel.

Speaking before the Israeli Knesset on Monday, Trump said, “This is the historic dawn of a new Middle East,” describing the agreement as “the end of a war” and “the end of an age of terror and death.”

Under the terms of the accord, Hamas released all 20 remaining hostages and agreed to transfer control of the Gaza Strip to a multinational body. The specific composition of that international coalition is still being finalized, according to officials familiar with the process.

Despite the wide praise from both Israeli and American leaders for the ceasefire and hostage release, Crockett condemned the development in a post on X, writing, “Raising hell at home & then pretending to be the President of Peace is diabolical.”

Crockett’s criticism came as images circulated worldwide showing emotional reunions between released hostages and their families. Video footage shared by Israeli media showed freed hostages embracing loved ones after months of captivity.

The Texas Democrat, who has previously drawn attention for controversial remarks in Congress, did not elaborate on her statement.

Crockett has a history of inflammatory comments, including calling Texas Governor Greg Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels” in reference to his use of a wheelchair, and once implying during a public event that illegal immigration was necessary because “we done picking cotton.”

Crockett also made headlines last year after a heated exchange with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene during a House committee hearing, which nearly escalated into a physical confrontation.

Her latest comments came as other Democrats offered measured or supportive responses to the ceasefire. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania praised President Trump’s role, posting, “Credit to @POTUS for a breakthrough ceasefire of this awful war.”

The ceasefire represents a significant diplomatic milestone following nearly a year of warfare and humanitarian crisis. The Trump administration’s 20-point plan, introduced in September, outlined a framework for ending hostilities, rebuilding Gaza, and securing Israel through cooperation among regional allies including Qatar and Egypt.

While Crockett’s post drew criticism online, her remarks stand in contrast to the bipartisan praise that followed the ceasefire announcement.

The deal effectively ended one of the deadliest conflicts in recent Middle Eastern history and secured the release of every remaining living hostage — a result seen as a major success for American-led diplomacy.
