According to Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge, Hinton is the father of 21-year-old Ryan Hinton, who was killed by law enforcement during a police-involved shooting on Thursday.
Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey confirmed that emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the deputy was pronounced dead shortly after.
Sheriff McGuffey noted that the fallen deputy had recently retired from the department but had returned to assist during high-need events.
“This deputy served his community for decades and continued to serve even in retirement,” McGuffey said.
The killing has sparked outrage among local law enforcement officials.
Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police President Ken Kober called the deputy’s death a targeted and intentional act, and called on Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich to pursue capital punishment.
“This horrific and intentional murder of a Hamilton County law enforcement officer is one of the worst things that I’ve ever seen in my career,” Kober said.
“There’s no room for anything less than the death penalty and we call on Prosecutor Pillich to confirm she will seek it.”
In a statement, Pillich acknowledged the seriousness of the incident.
“If the facts show this was intentional, I will throw the full force of the law at the perpetrator,” she said.
Theetge urged the community to remain calm amid two emotionally charged incidents.
“I do have a plea to everybody: Let the processes play out, let the investigations play out,” she said.
“Keep calm, take care of one another, and I can assure you, as the chief of police for Cincinnati, I will assure you of transparency and a thorough and accurate investigation.”
The initial incident that led to Ryan Hinton’s death occurred on Thursday morning during a stolen vehicle investigation.
According to police, deputies located the suspected vehicle at an apartment complex. When they approached, four individuals fled on foot.
Body camera footage, which police released during a press conference, shows Ryan Hinton appearing to trip and fall while running.
Ohio thug, Rodney Hinton Jr., used his car to take the life of a deputy. The thug’s 18-year-old son, Ryan Hinton, had recently passed away as a result of stealing a car, then pointing his gun at police, who opened fire.

Police said one or more of the suspects were believed to be armed, and that the deputy who discharged his firearm claimed Ryan adopted a “bladed position,” suggesting he was holding a weapon.
“The officer felt threatened for his life, and that’s why he discharged his firearm,” Theetge explained.
Police said the officer shouted “gun” before firing approximately four shots.
Two rounds struck Ryan, one exiting through his back and another entering his side.
Authorities recovered a handgun near where Ryan fell, along with a spare magazine in his jacket.
A second firearm was discovered inside the allegedly stolen vehicle.
Two individuals, Jurell Austin, 18, and DeAnthony Bullucks, 19, were arrested and charged with obstruction and receiving stolen property.
Austin also faces a separate charge of felony assault with a weapon.
Both are being held on bond and are scheduled to appear in court on May 12. The fourth suspect remains at large.
Rodney Hinton Jr. appeared in court Saturday morning for a bond hearing.
Over 30 deputies were present.
His public defender stated that Hinton had no prior felonies and was dealing with an “emotionally charged situation.”
He is currently being held without bond at Clermont County Jail, with his next court hearing scheduled for May 6.
