Two of the seven suspects arrested in connection with a violent assault in downtown Cincinnati have been released from jail after a judge sharply reduced their bond amounts, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to Fox News that 24-year-old DeKyra Vernon and 25-year-old Aisha Devaughn were released from the Hamilton County Jail on Friday following their arraignment the previous day.

Cincinnati’s justice system just handed two women accused of a brutal street attack a shocking lifeline. Dekyra Vernon and Aisha Devaughn went from $200k-$300k bonds down to $25k, paying just 10% to walk free while the city watches. The crowd even cheered. Absolute chaos. pic.twitter.com/JpjyuZHwc0

Court records show Judge Alan Triggs lowered Vernon’s bond from $250,000 to $25,000 and Devaughn’s from $300,000 to $25,000. Both defendants were required to pay only 10 percent, meaning $2,500 each, to walk free.

Defense attorney Clyde Bennett II argued that the charges against Vernon were overstated. During the hearing, he told the court:

“Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the United States Capitol. That’s a riot. When you get together, you assemble and you plan to commit a crime, that’s not what happened down on Fourth Street, judge.”

Both Vernon and Devaughn face multiple charges, including three counts of felonious assault, three counts of assault, and two counts of aggravated rioting. Despite the seriousness of the charges, they are no longer in custody.

The Cincinnati Police Department reported that officers are still searching for an eighth suspect believed to be involved in the incident. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding that individual’s role.

The assault took place on July 26 at the intersection of West Fourth Street and Elm Street. According to reports, a group of individuals attacked a white male victim, striking him repeatedly until he was unable to stand.

Witnesses said a white female victim was then punched by another suspect, causing her head to hit the pavement. She lost consciousness, and blood was observed coming from her mouth.

Seven people have been arrested so far in connection with the assault. Officials also noted that at least one suspect involved had already been out on bail for unrelated charges at the time of the attack.

The case has drawn widespread attention in Cincinnati, with many calling for stricter measures to hold violent offenders accountable.
