During a CNN segment of Anderson Cooper 360 on Wednesday evening, tensions flared between panelists Scott Jennings and former Biden senior advisor Ashley Etienne as they discussed Joe Biden’s farewell address.
The heated exchange centered on Biden’s comments about misinformation and the credibility of his administration.

“Americans are being buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation,” he warned.

On the CNN panel, Etienne praised Biden’s remarks, stating it was “incredibly important” for the president to highlight the dangers of misinformation on social media platforms.
She added that President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration would likely “continue to undermine the truth.”
Scott Jennings, a conservative commentator, directly challenged Etienne’s defense of Biden’s commitment to truth.
“Has Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or Karine Jean-Pierre ever lied?” Jennings asked.
Etienne appeared caught off guard, responding, “I don’t know. What are you talking about? I know where you’re going with this, but that’s not the point. Donald Trump stands up at the podium every day and delivers lies.”
Jennings countered by criticizing what he called the Biden-Harris administration’s inconsistency on transparency and truth.
He referenced past attempts by press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to dismiss concerns about Biden’s mental fitness.
During a July 23 briefing, Jean-Pierre labeled videos of Biden stumbling over words as “cheap fakes” created by Republicans.
Jennings also pointed to Vice President Kamala Harris’s changing positions on key policies during her presidential campaign.
“Your speech is about the truth,” Jennings said.
“Yet he and his people spend a heck of a lot of time undermining that very talking point, up to and including this year, with a massive cover-up of his own condition.”
The discussion shifted to Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, with Etienne accusing the former president of lying to the public.
She claimed Trump’s statements about the virus led to unnecessary deaths, saying, “What Donald Trump’s words did was prevent people from protecting themselves and their neighbors, and 500,000-plus people lost their lives.”
Jennings pushed back, calling her assertion “debunked” and accusing her of misrepresenting Trump’s actions.
“Are you saying the virus was listening to Donald Trump?” he asked.
Jennings also credited Trump with expediting vaccine development, stating, “Trump gave the U.S. the vaccine.”
Etienne argued that Trump’s leadership failed to create the necessary infrastructure to distribute vaccines effectively, blaming his “lies” for delays in reopening the economy.
“Lies have consequences. That’s what Biden was talking about today,” she said.
As the debate continued, Jennings called the discussion “crazy” and questioned the Biden administration’s own credibility. “This is insane,” he told CNN host Jake Tapper.
