CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins is reportedly facing frustration from colleagues after purchasing a high-end vacation property in Nantucket, Massachusetts, as the network prepares for a major restructuring and potential job cuts.

According to a report from Page Six, several CNN insiders have expressed irritation over the timing and cost of Collins’ latest purchase.

“She just bought some bougie place and CNN people are grossed out that she paid so much,” one anonymous source told the outlet.

Another described Collins, 33, as “way overpaid.”

The Nantucket property, rumored to be “very expensive,” was not publicly priced, but data from Realtor.com listed the average home price on the exclusive island at approximately $4.5 million as of May 2025.

Nantucket is a well-known destination for wealthy public figures, including Tommy Hilfiger and Dave Portnoy, both of whom own properties there.

Collins currently hosts The Source with Kaitlan Collins and serves as CNN’s chief White House correspondent.

She reportedly earns $3 million annually.

While her salary is lower than some of the network’s top-paid personalities, her new real estate purchase has drawn attention as CNN faces growing internal uncertainty.

The unease comes amid the announcement that CNN’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, will be split into two publicly traded companies by mid-2026.

The new entities, “Streaming & Studios” and “Global Networks,” will separate the company’s entertainment properties from its news and sports programming.

Streaming & Studios will include Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO, and HBO Max.

Global Networks will assume oversight of CNN, TNT Sports, Discovery, and similar outlets.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav will lead Streaming & Studios, while Chief Financial Officer Gunnar Wiedenfels is slated to serve as President of Global Networks.

Wiedenfels’ appointment has prompted speculation that CNN’s high-cost structure, especially in talent and production, may be re-evaluated.

Media reporter Dylan Byers, a former CNN employee, addressed the issue in an opinion column for Puck.

“Inevitably, Gunnar will look at CNN and decide he can maintain relatively similar profits at a mere fraction of the cost,” Byers wrote.

“This will have perceptible ramifications on the talent side. Why, for instance, would Gunnar pay Anderson Cooper $18 million a year when Kaitlan Collins draws the same ratings at roughly a fifth of the salary?”

Cooper is among CNN’s highest-paid anchors, reportedly earning $18 million annually. Wolf Blitzer earns around $15 million, while Jake Tapper brings in an estimated $7 million per year.

A source speaking to Fox News described Wiedenfels as a “bean counter” who is likely to pursue cost-cutting aggressively.

“It’s not just the overpriced talent. It’s the overpriced producers. The overpriced executives. The superfluous reporters who barely are on the air,” the source said.

“All will either be exited or forced to take massive pay cuts.”

The source also alleged that former CNN president Jeff Zucker, who stepped down prior to the 2022 merger, contributed to the network’s inflated salary structure by overpaying key personnel to secure loyalty.

As a result, first- and second-tier talent at CNN now earn “roughly five times what they are worth,” according to the source.

CNN’s financial pressures have been compounded by declining ratings.

In May, the network posted its second-worst month ever among adults aged 25 to 54, a key demographic for advertisers, during both daytime and primetime slots, according to Fox News.

Analysts from Kagan, a division of S&P Global Market Intelligence, projected further revenue decline for CNN in the coming year, with losses estimated at nearly $500 million, Variety reported.

The insider added that Wiedenfels could feasibly reduce CNN’s operational costs by 50 to 60 percent without impacting ratings or revenue.

“He could start by making 70 percent cuts to all show teams for CNN US, bringing their staffing in line with that of their competition,” the source claimed.

“But it will be most devastating for the rank and file. With no union protections, there will be massive layoffs and those remaining will be asked to do the work of their departed colleagues.”

As of now, CNN has not announced any official layoffs or salary cuts.

However, the network’s employees are reportedly bracing for changes as the corporate restructuring moves forward.
