CNN host Anderson Cooper had a heated exchange with former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu during a discussion on Tuesday regarding Elon Musk’s findings from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The debate followed a joint press conference held in the Oval Office by President Donald Trump and Musk, where Musk outlined examples of federal waste and corruption.
During the segment, Sununu pushed back against skepticism surrounding Musk’s claims, highlighting specific cases of wasteful spending that Musk had cited.

“I know what you’re not showing here, but Musk gave seven specific examples off the top of his head of where the corruption and fraud were,” Sununu said.
“He was talking about a contractor that had a three-month contract. He was paid for 20 years. He was talking about welfare benefits that were being paid to someone that was technically 150 years old.”
Cooper responded by questioning Musk’s evidence, saying, “But we didn’t see any of that. He doesn’t present any actual evidence.”
Sununu defended the press conference, stating that Musk and Trump had been transparent in their findings.
“He’s standing there in the Oval Office. Do you expect him to come in with 10,000 pages?” Sununu asked.
“And I have to be clear. To complain about this administration, about transparency when this president takes open questions on a daily basis, yet Joe Biden didn’t show up for a press conference in six months is insane. These guys are being extremely transparent. They don’t have to sit there and take the questions, but they do. It’s all on the website. It’s all out there.”
The debate later intensified when the topic shifted to FEMA’s use of millions of taxpayer dollars on luxury hotels for migrants. As the exchange became more heated, Cooper accused Sununu of misrepresenting his words.
“Don’t be a dick,” Cooper remarked.
Realizing his outburst, Cooper later issued an apology before the segment ended.
“Before we go, I wanna apologize,” he said. “I was mean, I was rude to you.”
Sununu brushed off the remark, responding, “Are you kidding? I grew up with seven brothers and sisters, and I’m a Sununu.”
Former NH Governor Chris Sununu just completely destroyed Anderson Cooper in a back and forth about Elon Musk and DOGE.
Cooper responded by angrily telling Sununu to not be a “d*ck” on live tv.

Meanwhile, Musk reaffirmed his commitment to exposing government waste and corruption.
“The people voted for major government reform, and that’s what the people are going to get,” Musk said.
“That’s what democracy is all about.”
Acknowledging that his findings may not always be perfect, Musk added, “Some of the things that I say will be incorrect and should be corrected. So nobody can bat 1,000. We are moving fast, so we will make mistakes, but we’ll also fix the mistakes very quickly.”

As Musk continues his efforts to identify inefficiencies in government spending, his findings are expected to spark further debate and scrutiny in Washington.
