CNN anchor Dana Bash is facing criticism for her contrasting coverage of the federal government’s response to natural disasters under two administrations, following recent flooding events in North Carolina and Texas.

During a recent segment, Bash offered strong support for the federal response under the former Biden-Harris administration during Hurricane Helene’s landfall in North Carolina.

That storm brought significant flooding to the state, leaving widespread damage and ongoing recovery challenges.

Despite continued struggles in the region, Bash highlighted what she characterized as a robust response from federal agencies, drawing attention for her emphasis on the administration’s efforts.

In contrast, Bash sharply criticized the Trump administration’s response to the recent flooding in central Texas, which has left at least 100 people dead.

This is CNN. This is Dana Bash.

Two weeks after the NC flood, after it became painfully clear that the federal response was inadequate, Dana Bash was viciously defending the Biden/Harris Admin and warning about the dangers of politicizing a storm response.

The remarks came as President Trump and federal emergency officials deployed resources across the region in response to what has become one of the deadliest weather events of 2025.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that budget adjustments discussed earlier this year have not yet taken effect and did not impact their ability to monitor or respond to the central Texas flooding.

In fact, NWS issued alerts ahead of the severe storms and had additional staff on duty as the system moved across the state.

Social media commentary following the Texas floods has further intensified public debate.

Some high-profile users and commentators posted inflammatory messages, appearing to wish harm upon affected residents.

These posts have drawn widespread condemnation and renewed focus on the tone of public discourse surrounding disaster response and regional suffering.

Meanwhile, a second tropical storm, Chantal, made landfall in North Carolina this week, causing additional flooding in areas still recovering from Hurricane Helene.

Federal agencies, including FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security, have been monitoring the situation and coordinating with state officials in both North Carolina and Texas.

Despite significant federal deployments to address both disasters, accusations of unequal treatment in media coverage have persisted.

Critics point to the inconsistency in how CNN and other outlets have discussed the Trump administration’s disaster response compared to their reporting under the Biden-Harris administration.

In Texas, FEMA personnel, National Guard units, and emergency resources were mobilized immediately following the catastrophic flooding.

According to statements from the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, emergency operations remain ongoing in Kerr County and surrounding areas.

Public attention has also been drawn to the accuracy of claims regarding cuts to the National Weather Service.

While proposed reductions to NWS funding had been announced during budget negotiations earlier in the year, those cuts have not yet been implemented.

Agency officials have confirmed that NWS staffing levels and forecasting capabilities were fully active during the storm, and that early warnings were sent out prior to the event.

The debate over federal disaster response, media bias, and the politicization of natural tragedies continues as both states manage the aftermath of historic flooding events.

Residents in Texas and North Carolina have been urged to follow local alerts and utilize resources provided by FEMA, the Red Cross, and state agencies.
