A tragic boating incident unfolded off Florida’s Atlantic coast on Friday when a vessel carrying nine people capsized roughly 29 miles off St. Lucie Inlet.

The Coast Guard responded after receiving a report from a good Samaritan who spotted the overturned boat. Emergency response crews quickly mobilized to the scene in an effort to recover survivors and assess the situation.
According to a passenger who was onboard, the vessel capsized Friday in open water. U.S. Coast Guard personnel launched both air and sea operations as part of the rescue effort, while Martin County Fire Rescue (MCFR) supported the mission from the ground.
The four survivors were airlifted by helicopter and transported to Stuart Airport, where they were met by MCFR units. They were then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

One of the rescued individuals sustained serious injuries, while the other three suffered injuries considered non-life-threatening.
The Coast Guard confirmed Sunday that one body had been recovered. The identities of the deceased and missing have not yet been released.
The search for the remaining five individuals is ongoing, with air and marine assets continuing to comb the area. The Coast Guard has not provided details on the circumstances that led to the capsizing or what type of vessel was involved.
Martin County Fire Rescue issued a statement emphasizing the seriousness of the ongoing efforts and reaffirmed their commitment to assisting in the search alongside federal partners.
