A Coldplay concert in Boston turned into an unexpected public scandal when a fan’s casual video outing became a viral sensation — and possibly upended the careers and personal lives of two high-ranking tech executives.
Grace Springer, 28, never imagined that a short clip she filmed on her phone during a routine “kiss cam” segment at a Coldplay show would rack up nearly 50 million views, nor that it would expose what appeared to be an affair between Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Kristin Cabot.
“I had no idea who the couple was,” Springer told The U.S. Sun.

The Coldplay megafan said she “just thought I caught an interesting reaction to the kiss cam and decided to post it” — without realizing the clip would become one of the summer’s most buzzed-about videos.
The video shows Byron and Cabot initially smiling before appearing to realize — in real time — that they’re being broadcast live to the entire concert audience.
Byron seemingly mutters, “F–king hell, it’s me,” while Cabot visibly mouths, “This is awkward,” before covering her face with her hands. Byron then ducks out of the frame entirely.

The awkward moment prompted Coldplay frontman Chris Martin to comment from the stage: “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” Later in the show, Martin added with a touch of irony, “I hope we didn’t do something bad…”

Springer, whose brief video of the kiss cam moment exploded on social media, shared her candid reaction to the aftermath.
“A part of me feels bad for turning these people’s lives upside down, but, play stupid games … win stupid prizes,” she said, offering a six-word response that quickly became a rallying cry online.
Internet sleuths wasted no time digging into the identities of the couple. They found that Byron is married to Megan Kerrigan Byron, while Cabot had reportedly finalized a divorce from her husband, Kenneth Thornby, not long ago.
The implication of the video, along with their body language and reactions, led many to conclude that an inappropriate relationship may have been playing out behind the scenes.
As the clip continued circulating, Springer expressed hope that some good might still come of the situation.

“I hope their partners can heal from this and get a second chance at the happiness they deserve with their future still in front of them,” she said. “I hope, for them, my video was a blessing in disguise.”
Professionally, the consequences of the viral moment remain unclear. Cabot, who joined Astronomer in November as its top HR executive, had previously spoken with pride about her approach to leadership.
On LinkedIn, she emphasized her ability to “lead by example and win trust with employees of all levels, from CEOs to managers to assistants,” and noted she was “energized” by her early conversations with Byron.
For his part, Byron appeared equally enthusiastic about Cabot’s hire. In a company-wide memo, he praised her credentials and called her “a proven leader.”
“Kristin’s exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management, employee engagement, and scaling people strategies will be critical as we continue our rapid trajectory,” Byron wrote.

“She is a proven leader at multiple growth-stage companies and her passion for fostering diverse, collaborative workplaces makes her a perfect fit for Astronomer.”
However, the nature of their relationship — if indeed romantic — raises serious concerns, particularly given Cabot’s position as head of Human Resources.
Workplace policy experts and employment lawyers have pointed out that HR executives are typically responsible for enforcing codes of conduct, especially those pertaining to relationships between company leaders and subordinates.
“It’s horrible because she is the head of HR! She’s involved in an extramarital affair with the CEO.
Basically, how much worse of an HR faux pas could you commit?” said William Cafaro, an employment attorney and co-counsel at New York’s Buzin Law, in an interview with The New York Post.
“The only way it could be worse is if the head of HR was having an affair with someone who worked for her.
That’s the only permutation I could think of that could be worse — but this is pretty high up there.”
As of now, neither Byron nor Cabot has publicly addressed the viral video or its implications.
With millions watching and corporate reputation on the line, their silence only adds to the intrigue of a saga sparked not by a whistleblower or investigative journalist — but by a Coldplay fan with a smartphone.
