College Baseball Player in Hot Water After Bar Fight Leaves 84-Year-Old Hospitalized [WATCH]

A 21-year-old college baseball player is no longer enrolled at The Master’s University after he was arrested in connection with an alleged assault on an 84-year-old man.

Owen Hayes, a student-athlete who played corner infield for the university’s baseball team, reportedly turned himself in to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station earlier this week.

The arrest follows an incident that occurred late last month at a local bar.

Hayes has been charged with felony assault likely to produce great bodily injury. According to authorities, his bail was set at $50,000.

The Master’s University, a private Christian institution located in Santa Clarita and a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), confirmed to TMZ that Hayes is “no longer” enrolled at the school.

“When violations occur, we follow established procedures to ensure appropriate action is decisively taken.

We are thankful that such behavior is exceedingly rare among our students, who come to TMU because they desire to honor the Lord,” the university said in a statement.

Hayes’ player profile has also been removed from the school’s athletics website.

The alleged assault took place at Doc’s Inn, a bar located in Santa Clarita, on February 27.

Video footage obtained by TMZ Sports appears to show a group of young men standing around the elderly man moments before the man is suddenly struck from behind.

According to the report, the victim was knocked unconscious by the punch.

He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a skull fracture and bleeding on the brain.

Law enforcement officials have not released further details on what led up to the incident or whether any additional individuals are being investigated in connection with the assault.

Hayes was studying sports management at The Master’s University and was actively participating in the school’s baseball program prior to the alleged incident.

The university has not commented further on the case beyond confirming Hayes’ enrollment status and reiterating its disciplinary procedures.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities have not released the identity of the alleged victim, who continues to recover from his injuries.
