‘Colossally Stupid’: Nuclear-Level Fallout Could Be In Store After GOP Redistricting Failure

The nearly two dozen Indiana Republicans who voted against the president’s redistricting plan Thursday are in political jeopardy as Trump allies rally together to take them out.

Republicans’ bid to redraw district lines ahead of the 2026 midterms failed after 21 state senators broke with their party and voted with the Democrats to strike the effort down 19-31. Trump claimed on Thursday that he “wasn’t working on it very hard” on the plan, though some have reported the president was making last minute calls to whip votes in favor of the new map. Major GOP organizations like Turning Point USA Action, Heritage Action, Club for Growth and strategists close to the president tell the Daily Caller that they are actively starting efforts to primary every single Indiana Republican who opposed the redistricting plan.

“I don’t think the voters will forgive them. We will court candidates relatively quickly. We’ve already been in the recruitment process,” Alex Bruesewitz, an adviser to the president and CEO of X Strategies, told the Caller.

“The last couple of weeks, a lot of great people were stepping forward saying that we want to run against XYZ. I think we’re going to be able to mount primary challenges against these people pretty quickly,” he added.

America won’t truly be made great again until every last RINO is removed from office — starting with those in Indiana who opposed redistricting.

They are just as bad as the Democrats, maybe even worse! All they do is sabotage/obstruct & demoralize our voters!

They need to go.

In the immediate aftermath of the vote, Bruesewitz pledged to primary all 21 Republican state Senators. He told the Caller that top on his list are Indiana Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray and Sen. Greg Goode. The president called out Bray by name in a Truth Social post, writing, “He’ll probably lose his next primary, whenever that is,” and asserting he’d “certainly support anybody that wants to go against him.”

A source close to the White House told the Caller that the Senate leader was a “snake” throughout the process and “screwed the President’s team over in the end.”

“I would expect Team Trump to make examples of every single member of the State Senate who opposed them on this. They are not messing around and these were not empty threats. Metaphorically speaking, it wont be long until all their heads are sitting on pikes,” a source close to the White House told the Caller.

One source close to the redistricting effort told the Caller that major in-state Indiana donors that typically support the Senate caucus have called allies of the administration and offered substantial sums of money to primary the 21 Republicans.

“They have a problem in their own state, and with a number of conservative and Republican adjacent organizations,” the source told the Caller. “So yeah, they have political problems coming their way for sure.”

Right next to Bruesewitz in his effort to primary the Senate Republicans is Turning Point USA Action. Tyler Bowyer, the Chief Operating Officer of TPUSA Action, told the Caller that the organization has already started its efforts to back any challenger of those 21 Republicans. “I think a lot of people think we are bluffing about that, but yesterday, during the vote, as the voting process was unfolding, we posted job openings [for staff] to chase the vote against five senators,” Bowyer told the Caller.

“We will be bringing in thousands of people and activating thousands of people to participate in the process of removing them from office … we’re already interviewing people today for those jobs,” he added.

Bowyer told the Caller that he has been involved in talks over the last few weeks to suss out potential primary challengers. He added that, in addition to TPUSA Action, MAGA Inc. and Heritage Action are also working on primary efforts.

The Club for Growth PAC is “looking into the races and who we can beat,” David McIntosh, the group’s president, told the Caller.

Heritage Action, the political arm of the Heritage Foundation, was caught in the crosshairs of the debate around how the redistricting effort failed. Hours before the vote, the group put out an X post suggesting that Trump would pull federal funding from the state if they shot down the effort.

“President Trump has made it clear to Indiana leaders: if the Indiana Senate fails to pass the map, all federal funding will be stripped from the state,” the post read. “Roads will not be paved. Guard bases will close. Major projects will stop. These are the stakes and every NO vote will be to blame.”

Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith seemingly confirmed this in a post of his own, though it is now deleted. Heritage Action communications flagged the post for the Caller in response to others’ claims that Trump never made the threat.

Heritage Action VP Tiffany Justice responds to reports that the Trump admin didn’t actually threaten federal funding to Indiana, despite the tweet below from the org saying differently.

“We talk to a lot of members. We have been on the ground for weeks and the President is right… https://t.co/J7u6xYW7Sz

“The Heritage Action tweet was a colossally stupid and fake thing,” a source close to the redistricting process told the Caller, adding that the administration never spoke to the organization, never involved them and never made such a threat to Indiana Senate Republicans.

Heritage Action Tiffany Justice told the Caller that the organization talks to “a lot of members” and has “been on the ground for weeks” when asked to respond to the pushback to the post.

“The president is right on the need for redistricting. The stakes could not be higher and we pray Indiana will not silence the voice of their voters,” Justice added.

While the party tries to determine how the redistricting effort failed, those preparing to punish the Indiana lawmakers believe such an effort could be unifying for the GOP.

“I think there’s going to be tremendous unity when it comes to outside groups who are sick of the establishment Republicans sabotaging our party every step of the way,” Bruesewitz told the Caller.
