Six illegal immigrants, including three juveniles, have been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of 40-year-old Larisha Thompson, a mother of two who was fatally shot while driving in Lancaster County on May 2.

The arrests have prompted renewed warnings from South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman about the threats posed by lax immigration enforcement and border security failures over the past four years.

According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson was discovered behind the wheel of her vehicle on Riverside Road with a fatal gunshot wound.

Deputies believe she was randomly targeted during what authorities described as an attempted robbery. The incident occurred while Thompson was on her way to meet friends in Rock Hill.

On May 12, authorities announced the arrests of six individuals in connection with the murder, including three adults — Asael Aminadas Torres-Chirinos, 21; Jarby Ardon Ramos-Odari, 18; and Jeyson Sobied Pineda-Salgado, 17 — and three juveniles aged 13, 14, and 15.

All six suspects were also charged in a separate burglary that took place just days earlier on April 30.

Torres-Chirinos is accused of pulling alongside Thompson’s vehicle and firing the fatal shot.

Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile said the group attempted to access Thompson’s vehicle, fled when they realized it was locked, and fatally shot her during the attempted robbery. All six suspects were allegedly inside the vehicle at the time.

“This shooting defies any sense of decency in a civilized society,” Faile stated during a May press conference.

“Ms. Thompson was going about her business on a Friday night, not bothering anyone. All of a sudden, these six men and boys – out to get something for nothing from someone they did not know and had no business bothering – pulled alongside her car, and Torres-Chirinos opened fire, killing Ms. Thompson.”

Sheriff Faile confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued detainers on all six suspects and that the community is “a much safer place today because these six individuals are off the streets.”

The adult suspects face charges of murder, attempted armed robbery, and second-degree burglary.

Torres-Chirinos faces additional charges, including two counts of firearms possession during the commission of a crime and one count of firearms possession by an unlawful alien. A judge denied bond for all three adults.

The three juvenile suspects face identical charges of murder, attempted armed robbery, and burglary.

Ballistics evidence from both the Thompson murder scene and the earlier burglary was matched to a 9 mm handgun believed to have been used in both incidents.

On April 30, deputies were dispatched to the Van Wyck Mart in Lancaster after reports of a break-in. Surveillance video showed several young males attempting to enter the store late on April 29.

They eventually forced entry through a bathroom door and allegedly fired shots at a security camera and the bathroom entrance.

Authorities noted that the location of the store and the site of the murder were just a seven-minute drive apart.

Investigators used digital surveillance footage to identify Torres-Chirinos at both scenes.

He was interviewed at the sheriff’s office on May 8, and the five other suspects were located and detained by the end of that day.

Rep. Ralph Norman, a Republican from South Carolina, spoke to Fox News Digital following the arrests and criticized the consequences of border policies under the previous administration.

“Two children will not have a mother to come home to,” Norman said.

“It can happen anywhere, at any time. That’s the sad part. We’ve seen it all over the country.”

U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman speaks on stage during a rally in support of state Rep. Adam Morgan at the Mariott in Greenville on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

Norman compared Thompson’s case to other high-profile crimes involving illegal immigrants, including the February 2024 murder of Laken Riley by a Venezuelan national.

He also referenced other victims across the country, including Lizbeth Medina, Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, and Kayla Hamilton.

“The positive thing is: the border’s secure now, but you’ve got to realize: four years of leaving the doors open to over 160 countries to put criminals and anybody else that wanted to come into the country,” Norman said.

“You wouldn’t open your house up like that. Yet the Democrats are still not condemning what Joe Biden intentionally did.”

When asked about potential threats that may remain in the country, Norman expressed concern about individuals who may have crossed the border with criminal intent.

“The unknown is what we fear,” he said.

“When you hear [FBI Director] Kash Patel talk about threats… the fact is that they’re doing their best, but… we don’t know who’s here.”

Norman added that he hopes prosecutors pursue the death penalty against the adult suspects.

“South Carolina is a great state,” he said, but warned that residents must remain “aware” and “diligent.”

The case remains under investigation, and all six suspects are subject to removal from the United States based on their immigration status, according to the sheriff’s office.
