The mad scramble for deals reached a bizarre new low at a Costco in Atwater Village, Los Angeles, where grown adults were caught on video fighting over Pokémon cards. Yes, you read that right—grown men and women throwing punches over trading cards designed for children, as reported by TMZ.

Video footage captured the chaotic scene, showing customers aggressively wrestling and even landing blows as they fought to snag the coveted merchandise.

Adam Williams opens a Pokemon 25th Anniversary Celebrations Ultra Premium Collection at the PokeCharles store in Santa Rosa Mall. Williams and his wife, Katie, had already been running an online business devoted to Pokemon cards, but recently opened physical store at the mall.

One man even took an elbow to the face during the fray, all in pursuit of the 151 Blooming Waters Premium Collection Pokémon cards.

The cards, sold at Costco for under $60, are highly sought after for their resell value, with prices reaching as high as $150 online. The promise of a quick profit seemed to bring out the worst in people, turning what should have been a quiet shopping trip into something more akin to a backyard brawl.

Costco employees tried valiantly to de-escalate the situation, stepping in as makeshift referees. However, their attempts to restore order were largely ignored. Despite the chaos, no serious injuries were reported, and police were not called.

A Costco representative confirmed to TMZ that the altercation was handled internally, with no arrests or major incidents.

This isn’t the first time retail chaos has taken center stage. The scene at Costco brought back memories of last year’s infamous Stanley Cup tumbler brawl at a Target Starbucks location.

In both cases, limited supplies and high demand turned ordinary shoppers into combatants, further proving that consumerism can bring out humanity’s less-than-glorious side.

Costco’s membership model, designed to give shoppers access to exclusive deals, inadvertently fueled the frenzy. After all, if you’ve paid to belong, why not fight to maximize your savings?

Still, it’s hard to imagine the $60 annual membership fee including a front-row seat to what looked like a “mini fight club.”

Incidents like these serve as a reminder of just how far some are willing to go for a deal—or a chance to flip an item for profit. Perhaps the most ironic takeaway? This chaotic Costco scene makes Walmart feel like a tranquil shopping oasis by comparison.
