Country Star Hospitalized in Nashville After Fall Leaves Him With a Broken Neck [WATCH]

Country music performer Ray Stevens was hospitalized in Nashville, Tennessee, after suffering a fall that resulted in a broken neck, according to a press release, as reported by Page Six.

Stevens, 87, sustained the injury on Sunday and is currently recovering. Doctors have advised him to wear a neck brace for approximately four weeks as part of his treatment.

“Despite the injury, he remains fully mobile and in good spirits as he continues his recovery,” the release stated.

The incident comes as Stevens prepares for the release of his upcoming album, “Favorites Old & New,” which is scheduled to debut on Friday. According to the release, the album remains on track despite the recent injury.

The hospitalization marks the latest in a series of health-related events for the longtime performer. Last summer, Stevens underwent surgery after experiencing a heart attack.

A statement shared at the time on his Instagram account outlined the circumstances.

“Country Music Hall of Fame member Ray Stevens is in recovery after undergoing minimally invasive heart surgery yesterday morning,” the statement read.

“Last Friday evening, Ray complained of chest pain and was admitted to a Nashville hospital.”

“After a heart catheterization procedure, it was determined he’d suffered a mild heart attack,” the statement continued, adding that his “initial surgery was successful.”

Following that procedure, Stevens canceled his scheduled performances for the remainder of the month.

Earlier in his career, Stevens had announced plans to scale back his live performances.

In January 2024, he told fans he would be “slowing down” and would “stop performing regularly” at the Ray Stevens CabaRay Showroom in Nashville by the end of that year.

However, by December, he returned to the venue to promote his album “Say Whut?”

Stevens has maintained a long presence in the music industry, with a career spanning several decades. He first signed with Capitol Records’ Prep Records at age 18 in 1957.

Over the years, he has written songs with artists including Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton.

He received his first Grammy Award in 1971 and has continued to release music and perform throughout his career.

Stevens was married to his wife, Penny Jackson Ragsdale, for more than 60 years until her death in 2021. The couple had two daughters, Suzi and Timi.

No additional details about the circumstances of the fall were immediately available. Stevens remains under medical care as he continues his recovery in Nashville.
