Criminal Referrals Hit the Deep State, Brennan and Comey Now Under FBI Scrutiny [WATCH]

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has launched criminal investigations into former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey, focusing on their roles in the origins of the Russia collusion investigation, according to multiple sources cited by Fox News.

The investigations, which remain ongoing, center around potential false statements made to Congress and possible misconduct tied to the creation and use of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA).

That assessment claimed Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election to benefit then-candidate Donald Trump.

However, subsequent reviews have revealed serious concerns about the integrity and accuracy of that assessment.

DOJ sources confirmed to Fox News that the FBI opened the investigations following a criminal referral from current CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

According to the report, Director Ratcliffe referred Brennan to FBI Director Kash Patel for potential prosecution.

Director Patel received the referral and initiated the criminal probe, though the Department of Justice has not released further information about the scope or progress of the case.

Separate sources familiar with the investigation said the alleged conduct of Brennan and Comey is being viewed as part of a broader “conspiracy,” suggesting the possibility of additional legal action as the inquiry develops.

Both Brennan and Comey declined to comment when contacted by Fox News.

The criminal referral comes in the wake of a newly declassified CIA “lessons learned” review examining the process used to compile the 2017 ICA.

According to that review, the assessment suffered from “procedural anomalies” and failed to adhere to established intelligence tradecraft standards.

The report also raised questions about the inclusion of the now-discredited Steele dossier, which had been funded by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

The dossier, which contained unverified allegations against Donald Trump, was pushed for inclusion in the ICA by Brennan, according to declassified internal records.

A recently declassified email from December 2016 shows the former deputy CIA director warned Brennan that including the Steele dossier could undermine “the credibility of the entire paper.” Nevertheless, Brennan reportedly insisted on its inclusion.

The internal CIA review stated: “Despite these objections, Brennan showed a preference for narrative consistency over analytical soundness.

When confronted with specific flaws in the Dossier by the two mission center leaders – one with extensive operational experience and the other with a strong analytic background – he appeared more swayed by the Dossier’s general conformity with existing theories than by legitimate tradecraft concerns.”

The review further concluded, “Brennan ultimately formalized his position in writing, stating that ‘my bottomline is that I believe that the information warrants inclusion in the report.’”

This conflicts with Brennan’s sworn testimony before the House Judiciary Committee in May 2023, where he claimed the CIA had objected to including the Steele dossier in the ICA.

“The CIA was very much opposed to having any reference or inclusion of the Steele dossier in the Intelligence Community Assessment,” Brennan told Congress.

“And so they sent over a copy of the dossier to say that this was going to be separate from the rest of that assessment.”

Sources familiar with Director Ratcliffe’s referral to the FBI indicated that he was “not surprised” by Brennan’s actions and felt the conduct warranted a full investigation.

“Brennan violated the public’s trust and should be held accountable for it,” one source said, adding that the referral was based on recently surfaced documentation and communications that contradict Brennan’s prior testimony.

Regarding Comey, DOJ sources confirmed that a criminal investigation into the former FBI director is also underway, though details remain limited.

The investigation is reportedly focused on similar allegations, including false statements made during congressional testimony.

These investigations mark the most significant escalation in federal scrutiny of high-level officials involved in the 2016–2017 Russia collusion narrative.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s final report, issued in 2019, concluded there was no evidence of criminal conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia.

As of this report, no charges have been filed against Brennan or Comey.

Both investigations remain active.
