A Washington, D.C., city councilman facing federal bribery charges is speaking out against President Donald Trump’s decision to take control of the city’s law enforcement and deploy the National Guard, as reported by Fox News.
Councilman Trayon White, 41, was sworn into office on Friday after winning a special election in July, despite facing a 2026 trial on charges that he accepted $156,000 in bribes in exchange for using his position to influence city contracts worth $5.2 million.
Democrat DC councilmember Trayon White has been charged with bribery. He allegedly received over $150k in exchange for promising government contracts.

Trump’s Sovereign Wealth Fund: What Could It Mean For Your Money?
Speaking to reporters Friday, White argued that D.C. leadership was already “responsible” and did not need federal intervention.
“I think we have one of the strongest budgets of any city for the last 20 years. We are fiscally responsible. We have a AAA bond rating. We’ve shown that we can be responsible with our funds. We don’t need federal interference. In fact, they’ve only crippled Washington D.C. and the progress we’ve made over the last four decades.”

White was expelled from the D.C. Council in February 2024 after being charged, but was eligible to run again because he has not been convicted of a felony. He ran his campaign on claims that the FBI had targeted him unfairly, accusing the agency of being out to harm him.
“You know the FBI is after me, you know, but I believe that, you know, not just arrest me, but, you know, but I believe they want to kill me.”

The FBI arrested White in August 2024, alleging that he accepted bribes in the form of cash-stuffed envelopes and used his position to pressure the renewal of certain violence-prevention contracts.
The Justice Department says the alleged scheme involved the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) and the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS). White has pleaded not guilty.
President Trump announced on Monday that his administration was federalizing the Metropolitan Police Department and deploying 800 National Guardsmen to address crime and homelessness in the city.
An interesting 2023 video has resurfaced showing White, after years of the D.C. Council pushing pro-criminal, anti-police policies, calling on the National Guard to address the city’s rampant violent crime.

U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro, said much of the problem is due to “young punks” who believe they are beyond the reach of the law.
White, who has maintained his innocence, celebrated his election win in July as a personal victory. “So we sent a message loud and clear to D.C. City Council that Trayon White is here to stay,” he said in his victory speech, according to the Associated Press.
His trial is scheduled to begin in January 2026.
