Dallas police say multiple suspects have been arrested and placed on immigration holds following a viral New Year’s Day gunfire incident on a busy North Texas highway that investigators later linked to additional shootings, including a road-rage attack targeting a family with children, as reported by The New York Post.

The Dallas Police Department announced Tuesday that Anthony Acevedo, 20, and Jose Alarcon Sanchez, 18, both of Grand Prairie, were arrested in connection with videos showing gunmen firing weapons from the Margaret McDermott Bridge over Interstate 30, just west of downtown Dallas.

The footage, recorded on Jan. 1, 2026, shows multiple individuals discharging firearms from the bridge onto the interstate below.

Police said the videos circulated widely on social media and were viewed around the world, prompting immediate public concern and a large-scale investigation.

Detectives from DPD’s Central Patrol Division and Special Investigations Unit launched what the department described as an aggressive investigation, working in coordination with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

During the investigation, authorities recovered more than 100 shell casings in the area near the bridge.

As investigators traced the suspects’ activities, they learned that Alarcon Sanchez had already been arrested earlier the same morning by the Grand Prairie Police Department for a separate firearms offense tied to New Year’s Day.

The probe later expanded beyond the bridge incident. Detectives identified Anderson Derce Lara, 25, as a suspect in a separate road-rage shooting that occurred in November.

Police say Derce Lara fired multiple rounds into another vehicle carrying three adults and three children, narrowly missing all six occupants.

With assistance from federal agents, investigators executed a search warrant and recovered multiple firearms, including rifles that matched weapons seen in the viral bridge footage.

Police said the evidence linked Derce Lara to both the November road-rage shooting and the New Year’s Day gunfire.

Acevedo and Alarcon Sanchez have each been charged with discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities, a Class A misdemeanor under Texas law.

Derce Lara faces six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony.

Police said Acevedo has since been released on bond. Alarcon Sanchez and Derce Lara remain in custody under immigration detainers, placing them on hold for potential federal immigration action while their criminal cases proceed.

“If you put lives at risk in Dallas, we will identify you, investigate thoroughly, and hold you accountable,” Daniel Comeaux, the Dallas police chief, said in a statement.

Today, the Dallas Police Department announced the arrests of two suspects connected to a New Year’s Eve gunfire incident on the I-30 bridge that was captured in a widely circulated video and viewed worldwide.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and that additional charges or arrests are possible as detectives continue reviewing evidence tied to the shootings.

Police also reiterated that firing weapons in densely populated areas and along major highways creates an extreme danger to motorists and families traveling through the region.
