Dan Bongino officially stepped into his role as Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Monday, immediately making an impact by paying tribute to fallen agents at the agency’s Wall of Honor.

The FBI acknowledged the moment in a statement on social media, saying, “After his swearing-in ceremony as FBI Deputy Director, Dan Bongino paid his respects at the Wall of Honor, honoring the brave members of the #FBI who made the ultimate sacrifice and reflecting on the legacy of those who paved the way in the pursuit of justice and security.”

Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer, was appointed by President Donald Trump as part of a leadership shift within the bureau.

His appointment has drawn both support and criticism, with backers pointing to his extensive law enforcement background while detractors note his lack of prior FBI experience.

Bongino began his career in law enforcement in 1995 with the NYPD before joining the U.S. Secret Service in 1999.

During his tenure, he served on the elite Presidential Protective Division, providing security for Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. He remained in the Secret Service until 2011.

After leaving government service, Bongino entered politics, running unsuccessfully for Congress three times as a Republican.

He later transitioned to media, becoming a well-known conservative commentator, podcast host, and former Fox News contributor.

His show, The Dan Bongino Show, built a substantial following, and he hosted Unfiltered with Dan Bongino on Fox News before parting ways with the network in 2023.

Bongino was appointed Deputy Director on February 23 by President Trump, serving under newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel.

Both Patel and Bongino have backgrounds in law enforcement and national security but have never been FBI agents.

It is an honor to serve as Deputy Director for the Federal Bureau of Investigation at such a critical time for our nation.

As Deputy Director, Bongino will be responsible for overseeing the bureau’s daily operations, as well as its intelligence and investigative activities worldwide.

His appointment follows a period of scrutiny for the FBI, with critics calling for reforms within the agency.

Bongino has been a vocal critic of the mainstream media and has frequently weighed in on issues related to the FBI and election security.

His supporters view him as an outsider who will bring a new approach to the bureau, while critics question his suitability for the role given his lack of experience within the agency.

Despite the controversy surrounding his appointment, Bongino’s decision to honor the agency’s fallen agents was met with praise.

His visit to the Wall of Honor was seen as a significant gesture, acknowledging those who lost their lives in service to the country.

As Bongino assumes his responsibilities, attention will be on how he navigates his new role and the challenges ahead in overseeing one of the nation’s most powerful law enforcement agencies.
