A dramatic rescue unfolded on Christmas Day near Lake Tahoe after an SUV slid on an icy roadway and veered off a snow-covered embankment, leaving the vehicle dangling precariously near a cliff as bystanders rushed to help those trapped inside, as reported by The New York Post.
Dashcam video captured the moment the black SUV lost traction on the slick road and began sliding sideways before nose-diving down the embankment.
According to KABC, the vehicle narrowly avoided plunging down a steep drop as it came to rest tilted on its side. The footage shows two of the SUV’s wheels continuing to spin as the vehicle hung over the edge in wintry conditions.
The incident occurred amid snowy weather that left road surfaces icy and hazardous throughout the Lake Tahoe region on Christmas Day.
The dashcam video shows another vehicle traveling directly behind the SUV, continuing on without stopping after the crash. Moments later, however, two brothers driving nearby pulled over and rushed toward the scene.
The brothers, identified as Yvett Bañares-Tala and Ruben Tala, quickly jumped into action.
Video footage shows one of the brothers sprinting toward the stranded SUV and grabbing onto the door while one of the occupants inside waved their arms, signaling for help.

Working together, the brothers helped extract the two people trapped inside the vehicle. They also assisted in rescuing two dogs that were inside the SUV.
The bystanders focused on moving everyone away from the unstable vehicle before first responders arrived.
Authorities said the rescue was completed before emergency crews reached the scene. Despite the severity of the crash and the dangerous position of the vehicle, no injuries were reported.
All occupants and their pets were safely removed from the SUV.
The dashcam footage has circulated widely online, highlighting the rapid response of the bystanders and the hazardous winter driving conditions in the Lake Tahoe area.
Officials continue to remind drivers to use caution during winter storms, particularly on mountain roads where ice can form quickly and reduce traction without warning.
The Lake Tahoe region often experiences heavy snowfall and icy roadways during the winter season, making sudden loss of control a recurring concern for drivers.
Emergency officials stress the importance of reducing speed, maintaining safe following distances, and using appropriate winter tires when traveling through mountainous terrain.
While the cause of the SUV’s loss of control was not officially detailed, authorities confirmed the incident appeared to be weather-related. The rescue concluded without further incident, and the scene was later cleared.
