David Schwimmer Recalls His Awkward Run-In With Rod Stewart [WATCH]

Long before becoming a household name as Ross on Friends, David Schwimmer had a less glamorous gig: serving legal papers, as reported by Fox News.

The actor, now 58, revealed during a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that one summer job had him face-to-face with none other than rock legend Rod Stewart.

Schwimmer shared, “One summer after my freshman year in college, I was just looking for work, and my mom said, ‘Well, you can be a process server for me.’”

His mother, a divorce attorney, apparently thought it was a great way for her son to make some extra cash.

He described the gig as “popping out of the bushes” to hand people divorce papers, adding,

“I felt like James Bond. I’d get tips on where someone might be, and then I’d track them down.”

One of his assignments led him to serve Stewart. Laughing, Schwimmer admitted, “Thank goodness I’ve never run into him since, but I served Rod Stewart. I don’t even know if he knows. I don’t think he knows.”

Host Stephen Colbert quipped, “He knows now,” joking that if the two ever meet again, Stewart might feel inclined to “punch” him.

While Schwimmer didn’t disclose which of Stewart’s marriages was ending at the time, the singer’s marital history includes Alana Stewart (1979-1984) and Rachel Hunter (1990-2006). Stewart is currently married to Penny Lancaster, whom he wed in 2007.

Schwimmer’s chat wasn’t just about his teenage adventures. He was promoting his role in Disney+’s Goosebumps: The Vanishing, part of the anthology series based on R.L. Stine’s popular horror novels.

In this new season, Schwimmer plays a divorced father juggling his career as a botanist, caring for his dementia-stricken mother, and raising his teenage twins. The actor explained, “I’ve always been a fan of horror, especially horror action-comedy. The genre is so exciting to me.”

This role also mirrors Schwimmer’s real-life experience as a father. Reflecting on the part, he noted, “I’ve not been able to play a dad of a teenager, which I am now in real life. So that part of me was also really excited. It’s another level of meaningful at this stage.”

From handing legal papers to rock stars to becoming a TV dad of teens, Schwimmer’s journey proves that even the most unlikely jobs can make for entertaining stories.
