Authorities are investigating what has been described as a possible “terrorism-related event” after a driver armed with multiple weapons rammed a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power substation in Southern Nevada.

The incident occurred Thursday at a secured facility in Boulder City, Nevada. According to officials, a rented silver Nissan Sentra crashed through a secured gate at the site.

A gunshot was reported after the vehicle breached the perimeter.

Law enforcement officials said a man was found dead inside the vehicle.

The individual was wearing “soft body armor” and had multiple firearms in the car, including two shotguns and an assault rifle-style pistol. Authorities said he was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is leading the investigation.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill said on Friday that authorities were investigating the attack.

In a statement, police said: “Officers discovered a deceased adult male in the driver’s seat suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Multiple firearms were observed inside the vehicle.”

Officials identified the man as Dawson Maloney.

Authorities also have not disclosed a motive, though the incident has been described as a possible “terrorism-related event.”

Investigators are working to determine whether the suspect had any specific targets or affiliations.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.

The facility involved is operated by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

The substation is located in Southern Nevada and serves as part of LADWP’s broader infrastructure network.

In a statement, LADWP said: “LADWP is aware of an incident that occurred in Southern Nevada at an L.A. power facility. There are no impacts or disruptions to our operations.”

Authorities have not indicated that the incident caused damage to the facility’s operational systems.

Officials confirmed that there were no reported injuries to utility workers or members of the public.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and evidence recovered from the scene.

The crash through the secured gate and the presence of multiple firearms have prompted a review of security measures at the site.

Sheriff McMahill said the investigation remains active.
