Passengers aboard a Delta Air Lines flight at Orlando International Airport were forced to evacuate moments before takeoff on Monday after flames were observed coming from one of the plane’s engines, according to statements from the airline and airport officials, as reported by Fox News.

Delta Flight 1213 was scheduled to fly from Orlando to Atlanta when the incident occurred. The aircraft, an Airbus A330, was carrying approximately 200 passengers, 10 flight attendants, and two pilots at the time of the event.

Video footage recorded from inside the airport showed flames shooting from the tailpipe of one of the aircraft’s engines as passengers exited the plane using emergency evacuation slides.

A Delta spokesperson told Fox News Digital that flight crews initiated the evacuation protocol after flames were spotted, in accordance with airline safety procedures. There were no initial reports of injuries, and all passengers were safely returned to the terminal.

“We appreciate our customers’ cooperation and apologize for the experience,” the Delta spokesperson said. “Nothing is more important than safety and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible.”

The airline stated that passengers were provided with food and beverages while waiting to be rebooked onto a different aircraft to continue their journey.

Officials at Orlando International Airport confirmed that the fire was quickly contained and extinguished. Delta has indicated that its maintenance teams will examine the aircraft to determine what caused the fire.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also confirmed that it will be conducting an investigation into the incident.

Delta has not yet released additional details about the engine malfunction, and it remains unclear what may have led to the visible flames. The airline reiterated its commitment to passenger safety and emphasized that the crew followed emergency procedures as designed.

The incident did not result in any reported flight delays beyond the affected aircraft, and normal airport operations continued following the evacuation.
