Dem ‘America Second’ Rep May Have Just Put ‘Half Her Family’ In ICE’s Crosshairs [WATCH]

Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) is facing public criticism following televised remarks in which she acknowledged that a significant portion of her extended family is living in the United States without legal status.

During a segment on MSNBC, Ramirez said the Trump administration’s deportation policies are personal to her.

“For me, who is the daughter of immigrants, who half my family is still undocumented,” Ramirez told the panel, explaining that she is concerned about relatives who remain in the country unlawfully and are trying to avoid deportation.

The comments come weeks after Ramirez, while speaking in Mexico City, said her patriotism for Guatemala — where her family is from — is greater than what she feels for the United States.

That earlier statement drew criticism but has now been eclipsed by her latest remarks.

Ramirez represents Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District and is married to Boris Ramirez, a recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

She campaigned in part on a pledge to secure permanent legal status for “Dreamers,” individuals brought into the country illegally as children who are eligible for temporary protections under DACA.

Reaction to her comments on MSNBC spread quickly on social media.

Hashtags such as #DeportDelia and #AmericaFirst trended on X, with many users expressing outrage over her admission.

One user wrote, “She can, and should be kicked out of Congress immediately. Her allegiance is not to the United States of America, that in her own words.”

White House spokeswoman Liz Huston criticized Ramirez’s previous statement about Guatemala, calling it “despicable” and accusing her of prioritizing another country over the United States.

Ramirez’s recent remarks have drawn comparisons to comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) last year.

Speaking at an event in Minnesota, Omar told attendees she was in office to represent the interests of Somalia.

“The U.S. government will only do what Somalians in the U.S. tell them to do,” Omar said at the time.

“They must do what we want and nothing else… The U.S. is a country where one of your daughters (myself) is in Congress to represent your interests.”

Omar added, “Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system… Together we will protect the interests of Somalia.”

“The US government will do what Somalia tells them to do, and nothing else. My goal is to protect Somalias interest from inside the US Congress.”

Both Ramirez and Omar are members of the progressive bloc in Congress often referred to as “The Squad.”

The group’s influence has diminished in recent election cycles. Former Reps. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Cori Bush (D-MO) lost their Democratic primary races last year, and Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) could lose his seat in 2026 if Texas Republicans approve a redistricting plan expected to eliminate his district.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), viewed as the leading figure in the progressive faction, is currently polling in the low double digits for the 2028 presidential race, signaling that some progressive voters are seeking other candidates besides high-profile Democrats such as California Governor Gavin Newsom or Vice President Kamala Harris.
