Several Democrats said that they currently have a grim outlook on the future of the Democratic Party, The Hill reported Monday.
Democratic strategist Brad Bannon told the Hill he thinks that Democrats are “still stuck in the same mud that they were in six months ago.” The report comes as the Democratic Party has been vying to win back voters they lost in the 2024 election cycle.
“We are still as unpopular as we were when [President Donald] Trump was inaugurated in January,” Bannon told the Hill.
One anonymous Democratic strategist told the Hill that he thinks the Democratic Party is currently trapped in a “nightmare scenario,” adding that he does not know how Democrats will be able to find themselves out of their current “mess.” (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE Dems ‘Learned Nothing’ By Nominating ‘Comrade Mamdani,’ Mike Johnson Says)
“This is a nightmare scenario for the Dems right now,” the anonymous strategist told the outlet. “We better pray long and hard that the country is going to be in a fucking depression because I don’t know how else we find ourselves out of this mess.”

A slew of recent surveys have revealed that Americans are largely dissatisfied with leaders in the Democratic Party. Just 27% of Americans said they approve of how congressional Democrats are performing in office, according to a Marist/NPR/PBS News poll released July 1.
Additionally, Democratic strategist Rodell Mollineau told the Hill that he thinks Democrats are “in the wilderness” following the party’s decisive losses in the 2024 election cycle.
“It’s hard to message when you’re in the wilderness, which is what we are right now,” Mollineau told the outlet. “When voters don’t think that you care about their issues, and they don’t think that you’re going to fight for them, that becomes a problem.”
In the aftermath of the Democratic Party’s 2024 election losses, some Democrats have claimed that their party brand’s brand has become too “woke” and “toxic.” Moreover, other party members have been urging Democratic leaders to do more to oppose Trump’s political agenda — such as some liberals reportedly calling on elected officials to be prepared for violence.
Still, Bannon told the Hill he thinks that Democrats should attempt to oppose Trump by attacking some key parts of his agenda, such as his administration’s economic policies and sweeping deportations.
“The secret sauce for the opposition is to use the Medicaid cuts, immigration deportations and high tariff taxes to blister Trump for his failure to keep his campaign promise to bring down high prices on the first day of the second administration,” Bannon told the outlet.
