Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton said on Thursday that his party is viewed as “out of touch” by Americans.

Moulton said on “Real Patriotism with Terry Moran” that Democrats largely ignored many issues facing the country throughout former President Joe Biden’s administration, including immigration, which led Americans to largely have negative views of the party. A national survey from Quinnipiac University found that a record-low 18% of voters approved of how congressional Democrats were handling their jobs.

“And that’s the way a lot of Americans feel about our party, that we’re just out of touch and can’t be trusted. And let’s look at some examples. You know, in the Biden administration, a lot of Democrats went around saying, ‘immigration isn’t a problem. There’s nothing to see here.’ And the reality is that immigration was a problem, even in northern cities, like up in Massachusetts, which usually don’t see the effects of the problems and challenges at the Southern border.”

“Now, this is more Republicans’ fault than Democrats, but when Democrats don’t even acknowledge the problem, then it’s hard to be trusted,” Moulton continued. (RELATED: Democrats Currently Facing ‘Lowest’ Favorability Ratings ‘On Record,’ CNN’s Harry Enten Says)

Moulton also credited the party’s unpopularity to the Biden administration claiming that inflation was “transient” and that Biden was in good health.

“And then, of course, there was inflation, you know, rather than have an agenda on affordability, like you see from [Democratic New York City Mayoral-elect Zohran] Mamdani and [Democratic Virginia governor-elect Abigail] Spanberger and [Democratic New Jersey governor-elect Mikie] Sherrill, and the Biden administration said, ‘hey, don’t worry about it,’” Moulton continued. “It’s transient. It’s going to go away, you know, and then, and then what about, and then what about the kind of icing on the cake, which is there’s nothing to see here. Everything is totally fine with old Joe.”

Democrats’ net approval rating stood at -61 points, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten said on Thursday. Past polling from Quinnipiac University showed that the party was never in a worse position.

Previous polling also found that Democrats garnered their lowest approval ratings in several decades, including a CNN survey from March which found the party’s favorability rating was its lowest since 1992. An NBC News poll from March found that just 27% of voters had a positive view of the party, which was the party’s lowest rating since 1990.

A December Reuters/Ipsos survey found that 46% of Americans 50 and older, who tend to vote more in non-presidential elections, intended to vote Republican in the 2026 midterms. Meanwhile, just 38% planned to vote for a Democratic candidate.
