Why do Democrats think they’re above the law? Maybe because they’ve been acting according to that principle, relatively unimpeded, for years.

Security forcibly removed Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla of California from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference. Padilla “interrupted a live press conference without identifying him,” according to Assistant Secretary of DHS Tricia McLaughlin, before “lung[ing] toward Secretary Noem.” Laughlin claims Padilla “was told repeatedly to back away and did not comply with officers’ repeated commands. [Secret Service] thought he was an attacker and acted appropriately.” (RELATED: Liberals Squander First Chance To Learn From 2020 Mistakes)

🚨 FOX NEWS ALERT: Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) was temporarily detained after storming DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference in LA.

Video captures Padilla attempting a statement as he’s dragged out of the room.

“I’m Senator Alex Padilla, I have questions for the secretary, because the fact of the matter is that half a dozen criminals…” Padilla remarked, before apparently becoming distracted, telling security, “Hands off.”

Another video shows security telling Padilla to put his hands behind his back and to lie flat as they handcuff him.

By far, the most absurd account of the event comes courtesy of The New York Times. “Padilla’s scuffle stirs painful memories of a childhood spent proving his worth,” Annie Karni, congressional correspondent for the outlet, wrote. Padilla was “often targeted as a ‘bad kid’ because of his brown skin.” Did a young Padilla also tend to interrupt his teachers in a belligerent and aggressive fashion? If so, I have a feeling his run-ins with discipline had nothing to do with his skin color.

Runner-up in absurdity is the Los Angeles Times, which ran this byline: “First they came for the immigrants. Then they took down our Latino senator.” A note to the Los Angeles Times editor: It’s *Latinx. Thanks.

Padilla’s party rallied around him in an equally deranged manner.

“Senator Alex Padilla is one of the most decent people I know,” Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California wrote on X. “This is outrageous, dictatorial, and shameful. Trump and his shock troops are out of control. This must end now.” Newsom also posted a version of the remarks in Spanish, for good measure. Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado referred to the incident as an assault, calling for a “full investigation into what happened today.” Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California also described the scene as an “assault…not only on [Padilla], but on freedom of speech and expression in our country.”

“The brazen and aggressive manhandling of Senator Padilla by the Trump administration is a sickening disgrace…” wrote Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on X. “…No one is above the law.” Indeed. That’s why Padilla was forcibly removed.

Democrats filed four criminal indictments against Donald Trump in 2023. At the time, Padilla fired off several social media posts chirping the party line: No one is above the law.

NO ONE is above the law. Share if you agree.

No one is above the rule of law. Including former presidents.

In the United States of America, no one is above the law — including a former president.

Donald Trump has been found GUILTY on all 34 counts by a jury of his peers in New York.

When Democrats invoke “the law,” they don’t refer to any formal legislature. They refer to a rule they’ve internalized over years of political ascendancy: “We can do whatever we want. You? Not so much.”

Joe Biden authorized the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to rifle through Melania Trump’s wardrobe during the raid on Mar-a-Lago, according to the New York Post. Democrats arrested and charged an elderly woman who walked through the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. California authorities arrested a man for paddle boarding alone in April 2020, in violation of Newsom’s stay-at-home order, according to the Los Angeles Times. This isn’t to say that security’s response to Padilla was payback. It was an appropriate reaction to an unidentified man belligerently interrupting a press conference. It is to say that Democrats have long waged lawfare against their political enemies without consequences.

The party’s over. Liberals are having a tough time adjusting to an evenly applied standard of justice. Their outrage is that of people enjoying a taste of their own medicine for the first time.
